Colts Release Kenny Moore

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Listen: Redskins: Sirius XM Radio 93, ESPN 980 Indianapolis: Sirius XM Radio 134, 1070 AM The Fan
Rex Grossman had a great game against the tough Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense in the Washington Redskins' first preseason game.
This did not convince head coach Mike Shanahan that he should roll with his starter from the last three games a year ago into the 2011 season.
John Beck is going to get his chance to show his stuff against the Indianapolis Colts on Friday night. Beck was injured against the Steelers and will be making his preseason debut under center on the first offensive series.
The Colts will be without Hall-of-Fame-caliber QB Peyton Manning for the second week in a row, and the team will be bringing backup Curtis Painter in to start once again.
The previous time these two teams squared off was Week 6 of last year. The Colts squeaked by with a 27-24 win behind Manning and a great performance from RB Joseph Addai.
The two teams last met in preseason in 2008 where the Redskins won 30-16. The series matchup between the two teams in preseason play goes in the Colts favor, 14-11-1.
Colts Key Addition: Drake Nevis
The Colts allowed the 25th most rushing yards last season. By selecting Nevis out of LSU in the third round, they are hoping to shore up some of that weakness. He should be in the DT rotation in the regular season and will get a bunch of snaps against the Redskins.
Redskins Key Addition: Tim Hightower
The ‘Skins went out and traded for Hightower this offseason hoping to bring some consistency to a backfield that started a ton of different running backs last season. He should enter Week 1 as the starter on a team that needs him to perform at a high level with such weak QBs.
Colts Biggest Loss: Clint Session
Session is an all-around solid linebacker who was injured for 11 games last year. He recorded 103 tackles in 2009 and will be solid if healthy for the Jaguars, who signed him away from Indy.
Redskins Biggest Loss: Donovan McNabb
McNabb should have been the quarterback this year for the Redskins if Mike Shanahan was not so thickheaded and stubborn. He is a great QB and much better than Beck or Grossman, as he will prove in Minnesota
What They’re Saying
The Washington Post is saying that Melvin Bullitt has gone from Bob Sanders’ pupil to Indianapolis Colts mentor with the departure of the Colts’ oft-injured but star safety.
Bullitt is going to be the starter for Week 1, and he has put in tons of hours on the practice field to earn it and hopefully keep it. He was brought back in after missing 12 games with a shoulder injury last year. The competition will be fierce, but Bullit is ready.
The New York Times is reporting that the Redskins cut ties with Shayne Graham and still have a position battle to be fought. Graham Gano, the least accurate kicker last season, is still on the roster. They will bring in someone else before the game on Friday to foster a competition.
Colts Players to Watch: Anthony Castonzo and Ben Ijalana
Both rookies, first and second round picks respectively, will be the future of the Colts’ offensive line and should be on the team for the duration of Peyton Manning's new five-year deal. Having them play well will be a huge boon for the team.
Redskins Player to Watch: John Beck
Beck will be starting the game Friday and is going to have to perform well to earn the starting job over Grossman. Having a solid performance against the Colts will make naming the Week 3 starter a highly anticipated event.
Matchup to Watch: Redskins Pass Rush vs Colts Offensive Line
The Redskins field a pretty solid pass rush with their combination of defensive ends and outside linebackers. The Colts need to prove they can beat this and protect Painter, who will be filling in for Manning. Stopping a tough pass rush is priority No. 1 for the Colts.
Key Colts Position Battle: Wide Receiver – Reggie Wayne, Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon, Anthony Gonzalez
Reggie Wayne is the clear No. 1 receiver in this offense, but the three above players and a number of others will be competing to fill out the No. 2 through 5 spots on the roster. They are all immensely talented, and there are not enough passes to go around.
Key Redskins Position Battle: QB – John Beck vs Rex Grossman
Beck is getting the starting nod and needs to play well to carry that to the regular season. Grossman will come in and get a number of snaps with the team as well. Whoever does better this game should be the Week 3 starter.
Key Storyline: Redskins Quarterback
Everyone cannot stop talking about how atrocious the Redskins quarterback situation is this offseason. The team is relatively solid beyond that, and they remind me of the Arizona Cardinals of last season.
Whoever wins this quarterback battle will be highly likely to lose their job at some point this season, and then replaced by a free agent or trade the following year.
Prediction: Redskins over Colts, 30-14
The ‘Skins have much more to evaluate from their first and second-string players. They will be on the field longer and score more points against the Colts’ scrubs. Should be an easy win for the Redskins in Indianapolis.
