Rewriting WWE History, Vol. 2: The WCW and ECW Invasion Angle Part III

Kevin GermanyJun 7, 2018

This is the final part of the second part of my rewriting WWE history series. My first volume was about rewriting the Nexus and Raw GM angles. View parts on, 2, and 3 at your convenience.

For those of you who haven't read parts I and II of my story, I suggest you skim over them to be familiar with part III.

Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan are the final two men in the ring. WWE fans throughout the world are standing on their feet.

Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan are now doing battle in the ring.

"Sweet Chin Music!" Jim Ross yells in glee. "One! Two! No! Hogan kicks out of Sweet Chin Music!"

Five minutes later, Hulk Hogan connects on his signature leg drop. "One! Two! No!" Jim Ross yells once again.

A raucous crowd is on the edge of their seats as total control over Raw hangs in the balance.

WCW wrestlers Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell try to interfere. However, the ECW roster attacks the two WCW wrestlers in retaliation for their attack on Brock Lesnar.

No more interference in this match now. It's mano y mano between Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels. The most charismatic performer in WWE history vs. the greatest in-ring performer in WWE history go at it.

Shawn Michaels endures another Hogan leg drop. HBK seems exhausted and unable to continue. He feeds off the energy of the pro-WWE Survivor Series crowd.

Miraculously, Shawn Michaels lands another Sweet Chin Music on Hulk Hogan.

"One! Two! Three!" The WWE partisans yell in unbridled joy. Vince McMahon takes control of Raw and the WWE!

Raw

"You're fired!" Vince McMahon screams to Eric Bischoff and the rest of the WCW invasion. Notice the McMahon family is no longer involved in this story. The vacated World Heavyweight Championship is eventually rewarded to Shawn Michaels.

In reality, McMahon takes advantage of this opportunity to get rid of unwanted WCW guys.

Smackdown

Rob Van Dam drops his Intercontinental Championship against Eddie Guerrero. Brock Lesnar gets his rematch against the Big Show on Smackdown.

Lesnar is about to hit the F5 when Scott Steiner comes in to the ring and attacks the future UFC fighter. The rest of the ECW roster attacks Steiner. But the ECW roster is overwhelmed by the WCW roster.

WCW has invaded Smackdown! Noticeably absent from this invasion is Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.

Big Show now turns his attention to Rob Van Dam. RVD will face the Big Show for the WWE Championship at the next pay-per-view.

At that pay-per-view, the Big Show retains his WWE Championship. There are no major storyline changes until the Royal Rumble.

Royal Rumble

Big Show must defend the WWE Championship against Kurt Angle. The Olympic Gold Medalist goes on to win the match after the overgrown, 500-pound bag of monkey crap taps out to the ankle lock.

Now we're on to the Royal Rumble itself. The last two men are Triple H and Brock Lesnar. The former University of Minnesota amateur wrestler throws Triple H over the top rope after Shawn Michaels interferes.

This sets up the Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels feud going in to WrestleMania. Brock Lesnar wins the Royal Rumble.

Smackdown

Brock Lesnar says he no longer needs or wants ECW's help to win the WWE Championship. He will face Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 19 for the WWE Championship.

Smackdown General Manager Paul Heyman puts his entire focus on eliminating the WCW threat. Heyman challenges Bischoff to a match at WrestleMania.

The best ECW guy vs. the best WCW guy to determine official ownership of Smackdown. The losers are banished from Smackdown.

Eric Bischoff selects Goldberg. Paul Heyman selects Rob Van Dam.

Rob Van Dam, Sabu and Tommy Dreamer team up to face Goldberg, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash that night.

No Way Out does a good job of progressing storylines. Big Show loses his rematch against Kurt Angle. Brock Lesnar wins his handicap match against Raven and Sandman.

The buildup to WrestleMania is intense. The WCW-ECW war intensifies as the wrestlers on both sides understand the importance of this war.

WCW legend Goldberg faces ECW legend Rob Van Dam in a No Holds Barred match for control of Smackdown.

Wrestlemania

Stakes are incredibly high in this important match at Safeco Field in Seattle.

Rob Van Dam and Goldberg annihilate each other with all kinds of weapons.

Goldberg has the presence of mind to spear RVD through a table. RVD responds to choking Goldberg with a chain.

It's an incredibly violent match. It becomes even more violent when Goldberg lands his spear/jackknife combination. RVD somehow kicks out at two.

Then RVD hits a Van Terminator to a two-count. Next, he tries the Van Daminator to another two-count.

"20 classic minutes of brawling has happened so far. Remember, this is for complete control of Smackdown. If Goldberg wins, Eric Bischoff is the Smackdown GM. If RVD wins, Paul Heyman remains GM," Jim Ross reminds the fans at home.

Goldberg puts an end to this match by connecting on his second spear/jackknife combination. Except Rob Van Dam won't quit.

RVD manages to hit a Five Star Frog Splash. Goldberg kicks out!

Goldberg goes on to win the match after a third spear/jackknife combination. WCW is in control of Smackdown!

The big fat walrus is no longer Smackdown GM. ECW fans throughout the world are furious over the outcome.

The Seattle crowd is either outraged over WCW's takeover of Smackdown or excited Eric Bischoff is the new Smackdown GM.

Eric Bischoff comes out with the remaining WCW alliance to celebrate.

Aftermath

Eric Bischoff goes on to be drafted to Raw in exchange for Raw GM Stephanie McMahon. This is a shocking move, especially considering Vince McMahon fired Bischoff just last November.

All of the ECW guys either move to Raw or are released. When Bischoff is moved to Raw, the ECW guys are either drafted to Smackdown or released.

This gets rid of any unwanted ECW talent.

Paul Heyman eventually goes on to become Smackdown General Manager after Stephanie McMahon decided to quit her position as GM.

ECW goes on to have its own pay-per-view, ECW One Night Stand, just like in real life. Heyman and rival Eric Bischoff go on to create the highly-acclaimed Ruthless Aggression Era on their respective brands.

Well, that was my Invasion rewrite.
