Ranking Every Los Angeles Lakers Uniform

With no end to the NBA lockout in sight and the player's desires to move to Europe for the season—so they can actually get paid and play basketball—I think we should take a trip down memory lane. 

Team uniforms have been changed, altered and have even evolved, such as those of the Los Angeles Lakers, previously the Minneapolis Lakers.

Let us take a look at the best Lakers uniforms of all time. 

9. Black Lakers Alternate

Probably the worst of all the uniforms that the Lakers have sported in their lifespan, even worse than the original Minneapolis logo (see next slide). All black with gold trim, purple lettering and numbering.

The dark side of the Lakers always seems to come out when they sport these. 

8. Minneapolis Lakers

This is the original of all the jerseys for the Los Angeles Lakers, the powder blue uniforms with the gold lettering. 

A classic, but unfortunately falls down the list of all the Lakers uniform variations. It is quite similar to the Denver Nuggets colors and has the MPLS logo on the front. 

It could even be confused with UCLA. 

7. Modern White Uniforms

The Lakers have a boring white uniform with gold trim and purple lettering. A must have in the arsenal of uniforms, but lets be real. This is not the jersey Lakers fans think of when they think of the Lakers. 

The modern white uniforms are reserved for Christmas day or road trips. 

6. Modern Purple

I know, these are a staple now at the Staples Center—and the rest of NBA—but in terms of all of the Lakers uniforms, this is not even close tot he top.

But it is a Lakers uniform that has been updated with the times—and a fan favorite in terms of sales. 

5. Modern Gold

The modern gold uniform is what we have come to know as the signature jersey for the Lakers. It pays homage to the "golden" years while adding a new modern spin, but with the same result—winning.

Definitely the best current Lakers jersey.

4. 1967-76 Purple Uniforms

This is a very "blast from the past" type uniform, one that many enjoy talking about in terms of retro jerseys.

This is a classic in the era of Showtime with Kareem and Magic. A definite fan favorite.  

3. Pre-Showtime Gold

Used just before the Showtime era, these gold jerseys with white lettering and numbering signifies the time just before Lakers "Magic" years. 

These jerseys were for the true fans, before the Lakers became such a top flight team and everyone hopped on the bandwagon. 

2. Late '50's Powder Blue

One of the best old school jerseys are the uniforms used just before the Lakers moved to Los Angeles. They were powder blue with white lettering and numbering, with four stars surrounding the name.

Variations have been worn during games, but not with the four stars surrounding the lettering like this one.

1. Showtime Gold

This is everything you think about when you think of Lakers glory. Kareem and Magic making it rain out on the basketball court. Celtics vs Lakers. This is what you think about when you see these jerseys. 

These are classic and by far the best the Lakers have to offer. Gold uniforms with the purple lettering and numbering. The best.
