New York Jets: Reviewing the 2007 NFL Draft for the Franchise
The New York Jets franchise has been around for 52 years, and although there are more successful teams out there, they are heading in the right direction.
The New York Jets headed into the 2007 NFL draft with four draft picks. Eric Mangini was entering his second season coaching the team.
I will be grading each pick based on the players' overall performance in a Jets uniform and their overall NFL performance.
Here are the grades for the 2007 New York Jets draft.
Darrelle Revis: Round One, Pick 14
1 of 5Years with the Jets: Four and active
Years in the league: Four and active
Stats with the Jets: Currently: 61 games played, 14 interceptions, five fumble recoveries and 192 tackles
Accomplishments: Two time All-Pro and three time Pro Bowl selection
Darrelle Revis is arguably the top cornerback in the league and one of the best shutdown corners of all-time. There's no doubt Revis has a place in Canton, Ohio once he retires if he keeps up this play.
Grade with the Jets: A+
Overall NFL grade: A+
David Harris: Round Two, Pick 47
2 of 5Years with the Jets: Four and active
Years in the league: Four and active
Stats with the Jets: Currently: 59 games played, 14.5 sacks, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries and 292 tackles
Accomplishments: One time All Pro
Harris is just your average linebacker who has never had a season with less than 50 tackles. His interception in last year's playoff game against the Patriots ended Tom Brady's streak of 340 pass attempts without a pick.
Grade with the Jets: C
Overall NFL grade: C
Jacob Bender: Round Six, Pick 177
3 of 5Years with the Jets: One season
Years in the league: One season
Stats with the Jets: Two games played
Accomplishments: None
Bender hasn't really accomplished much in the NFL since he was drafted in the sixth round. He has been on several teams' practice squads and is currently a member of the Carolina Panthers.
Grade with the Jets: F
Overall NFL grade: F
Chansi Stuckey: Round Seven, Pick 235
4 of 5Years with the Jets: One and a half
Years in the league: Four
Stats with the Jets: 19 games played, 43 receptions, 479 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns
Accomplishments: None
For a receiver that has only started 10 career games, Stuckey's career hasn't been too shabby. He's played pretty well for the limited action he's seen in the league. He is currently a member of the Arizona Cardinals. Just for being a decent receiver and drafted in the seventh round, Stuckey gets a B.
Grade with the Jets: B
Overall NFL grade: B
Overall
5 of 5The 2007 draft for the New York Jets was pretty good. You have a possible future Hall of Famer in Darrelle Revis, a solid linebacker in David Harris and great value in the seventh round with Chansi Stuckey.
This draft was one of the few good things that Eric Mangini helped do for the short time he was coach of the New York Jets.
Overall grade: B
