Latest NBA Trade Rumors on Trey Murphy III Calls Fielded by Pelicans, New Potential Landing Spots
The New Orleans Pelicans reportedly are shopping one of their young stars.
Per NBA insider Marc Stein, the Pelicans have been getting calls for Trey Murphy III, and New Orleans is, for the first time, "truly willing to field offers for Murphy."
As far as potential suitors, Stein noted that the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers have "expressed interest."

The interest in Murphy comes after a career year for the 25-year-old sharpshooter. In his fifth NBA season, he put up 21.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, adding 1.5 steals while shooting 47 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from deep.
His strong efforts were in vain as New Orleans once again struggled, finishing 26-56 to miss the playoffs for a second consecutive year.
At this point in his career, Murphy might be a better fit on a team like Detroit or Indiana. The Pistons' ascension continued in 2025-26 as they finished 60-22 and won their first playoff series since 2008.
Detroit has a strong core with Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren and Tobias Harris, but it could use a bit more offense. In terms of what the Pistons could give up, they have a pair of sharpshooters in Duncan Robinson and Kevin Huerter that New Orleans could choose from, along with a handful of picks over the next few years.
The Pacers had a dreadful 19-63 season without Tyrese Haliburton, but this time a year ago, they were taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals. Once Haliburton is back from his torn Achilles, Indiana should be competitive in the East once again.
The Pacers had a hole to fill in the frontcourt, and they did so by adding Ivica Zubac before the deadline. Now, they're looking to upgrade their perimeter, and Murphy would be a big addition.
