Wrestling: 25 of the Angriest Wrestlers of All Time
They came to the ring to do business. They allowed their actions to speak louder than their words.
For some wrestlers, the mere appearance of being mad was enough to make their opponents shudder in fear. They would snarl, grimace and even bark or taunt their opponents before the opening bell.
Call it intimidation or call it leverage, either way, some wrestlers come to the ring angry and stay that way in victory.
For them, it is the business side of things. Everything else is immaterial and they go about their business in workman-like fashion.
Today, the business side is blurred, and while there are still throw-back wrestlers who can put on an angry face and walk to the ring, they still have to keep up with the desires of today’s fans, the IWC and, of course, the television audience.
Yes, the wrestling business has changed, but there are some wrestlers who remind us that the angrier they got, the more often they usually picked up a victory.
Scott Norton
1 of 25A former arm wrestling champion and weightlifter. He toured the Orient and wrestled in independent promotions.
Came to WCW and became one-half of "Vicious and Delicious" with Buff Bagwell.
Then he joined the NWO and became a bit player.
Norton was always mean with not a lot to say.
Jos Le Duc
2 of 25A mainstay in Florida Championship Wrestling, LeDuc loved to beat his opponents and inflict pain and suffering.
Always had a penchant to bleed. Could play the role of both face and heel but when he was in his heel character, he was at his best.
He passed away in 1999.
Triple H
3 of 25He plays the game better than anyone. And when he comes to the ring as face or heel, there is nothing but anger on his face.
He uses his anger to his advantage, making the fans believe in his character and takes the match to a whole new level.
He is a rarity in this day of wrestling where the heel and the face work well for one character.
He reminds me of Ole Anderson with better ring skills.
Bam Bam Bigelow
4 of 25He was vicious and knew it.
Whether it was WCW, ECW or independent promotions, he was one bad man.
No one looked the part more with the tattoos and the bald head.
Big Show
5 of 25He is on the mend now, but no one is more intimidating.
He always looks like he will implode or explode. And he takes it out on his opponents.
While working with an angle with Alberto Del Rio and then Mark Henry, you saw how angry he could be.
When he comes back from his injury, he could be as menacing as ever.
Brock Lesnar
6 of 25He was the next big thing and no one ever stood in his way.
Big, powerful and a scowl were enough to make us shudder.
He could walk into the ring and take an opponent apart.
That is one angry SOB.
King Kong Bundy
7 of 25When he wrestled in Florida, he used to make the referee count to five to earn a victory.
Bundy was a menacing man in the ring and benefited from the Hulk explosion, even working PPV events with the champion.
He spent time in WCW and was a bit figure in Legion of Doom.
A large man who could move well but really did not offer a lot. Came to the ring scowling and remained that way.
Buzz Sawyer
8 of 25Buzz Sawyer was one bad man who lived life on the edge.
Feuded with Tommy Rich and loved to inflict pain on his opponents.
Toward the end of his career he partnered with his brother Brett Sawyer. They became a popular duo in Georgia Championship Wrestling.
One of the toughest men ever to get in the ring.
Chyna
9 of 25She makes the list because there was never a woman in wrestling to inflict pain and torture like Chyna. And the fact she wrestled men and won was a feat all to itself.
She always looked like she wanted to kill someone and never showed any other emotion.
Even her angle with Eddie Guerrero (Latino Heat), led to her beating the crap out of him.
Goldberg
10 of 25His entrance was enough to makes us scared.
He blew smoke through his nose and walked through his opponents.
Goldberg was the bully on the block you did not want to mess with.
And to this day, I don't think we want to mess him in any situation.
Terry Gordy
11 of 25Bam Bam was a terror wherever he wrestled. The Orient. Texas. Missouri. It did not matter.
Was a world title holder and a great tag team champion with Steve Williams.
Could have been one of the best if demons did not get the best of him.
The time with the Freebirds helped him develop his own brand of pain.
Ivan Koloff
12 of 25He was a menace in the WWWF and then he was a menace in the NWA.
A former world title holder, he beat Bruno Sammartino for the WWWF world title, then lost to Pedro Morales.
In the NWA he was a great tag team champion, and his knee to the back of the heat off the top rope was painful to watch.
Jim Neidhart
13 of 25Loved the beard.
A great tag team wrestler with Brett Hart and was a decent singles competitor.
He made the color pink popular and no one was as powerful at the time of the 80s as "The Anvil" was.
Kane
14 of 25Few wrestlers have maintained the same mojo as Kane has, even at his current age.
The Big Red Machine is still a challenger for the world title and while he is not as agile on the ropes as he used to be, his is still one powerful man.
He can still own WWE gold before he finally calls it quits.
He just looks angry.
Larry Zybyszko
15 of 25An angry man. Looked like he was pissed all the time in the ring and on the mic.
Held the AWA world title and was a regional champion in NWA/WCW.
Provided ring commentary before he called it quits, but has been rumored to be wrestling in independent promotions.
Fritz Von Erich
16 of 25Came to the ring sporting a Nazi supporter gimmick. Was a mean man who used the "Iron Claw" to beat his opponents.
Was instrumental in establishing the Texas territory and later built World Class Championship Wrestling and promoted his sons and Bruiser Brody to new heights.
A real free spirit in the ring. Was one of the best.
Vader
17 of 25Leon White took his career after football to new heights.
A former world title holder, he liked to really beat his opponents up in the ring. Some of his matches with Ric Flair have been documented for the real shots he threw at the world champ.
Wrestled the likes of Sting, Ron Simmons and Lex Luger.
Was hard to take down and if he backed you into a corner, you had nowhere to go.
Scott Steiner
18 of 25Kids, this is what happens when you juice.
Was a great amateur wrestler and a great tag team wrestler with his brother, Rick.
Held the world title in WCW and moved over to WWE and then TNA.
His rants and anger can be felt all over the arena and in the locker room.
Needs to retire and get away from the business.
Ron Simmons
19 of 25Damn!
WCW's first African American World Champion. He is strong, powerful and will knock the last breath out of your mouth.
As a singles wrestler or a tag team competitor, there were few that were as angry and mean when they got in the ring.
And judging by the looks of him today, he could still beat the crap out of you.
Ole Anderson
20 of 25The man was the true bruiser of WCW and the NWA.
Was instrumental in forming the Horsemen and signing the Road Warriors.
But no one was as angry in the ring when he bore down on you and made you submit. His arm bars and his leg locks were painful.
A true talent in and out of the ring. He was a booker for the NWA and WCW as well.
Ox Baker
21 of 25Maybe the ugliest man to ever wrestler.
The only time I saw him smile is when he appeared on the Price is Right.
His heart punch was evil and he is said to have killed wrestlers from it. But there is that fine line of whether it was the real cause.
The epitome of evil, anger and destruction.
Raven
22 of 25The many faces of Scotty Levy.
He has been through many faces and levels, and came out as a sad, angry man.
His flock was a great concept. He also beat his stable at their own game.
Feuded with Sandman in some epic battles.
And a promotion like ECW was perfect for him.
Powers of Pain
23 of 25The Barbarian and Warlord were a team modeled after the Road Warriors.
They beat people up and hurt them. And when they met the Road Warriors, they held their own and brought the crowds to their feet.
A truly underrated tag team.
Vince McMahon
24 of 25It all comes back to Vince.
He is everything that encompasses the wrestling business and when he is in the ring, he is a completely different person.
He wrestled Steve Austin with the anger of a seasoned veteran.
And fans ate it all up.
His anger as a character spoke volumes of how he knew that fans and employees disliking him was good for business.
The Road Warriors
25 of 25Did you think it would be someone else?
When Ole Anderson signed them to Georgia Championship Wrestling, he changed the course of history.
They were big, intimidating and had a purpose.
They came to the ring to beat you up. You knew it and there was nothing you could do about it.
They're image has been copied by more wrestlers over the years, a nice compliment.
Oh, what a rush!
