Shannon Sharpe: The Greatest Moments in a Hall of Fame Career
At the time of his retirement Shannon Sharpe was the most prolific offensive tight end in NFL history, and in many people's opinion, the very best to play.
In the time since he left the game his records have been surpassed, yet the prevailing opinion of Sharpe being the best tight end ever has not changed.
He was a game changer, an intimidator, a leader and, quite simply, the biggest star to ever play the position.
Denver fans and Baltimore fans alike, will be cheering as the "Best Looking Bust In Canton" (at least that is what we can assume Shannon would call it) gets inducted this weekend.
Here is a look back of some of the most memorable moments in Shannon's great career.
October 4th, 1992
1 of 8Shannon gets his first 100-yard receiving game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He would go on to do it a total of 20 times in his career with over half of them coming against AFC West opponents.
Shannon would also earn his first Pro Bowl nod in 1992 and finish his career with eight total selections.
January 9th, 1994
2 of 8In the face of defeat Shannon ties an NFL record with 13 receptions in a playoff game against the Raiders.
He would finish the game with 13 receptions for 156 yards and one touchdown (pictured above).
December 31st, 2000
3 of 8Shannon Sharpe ended the playoff dreams of the Denver Broncos with a 58-yard gallop for a touchdown that would all but seal the game for the Ravens.
It also set the tone for the playoffs and gave the Ravens the confidence that the offense would hold up their end of the bargain on the march to the Super Bowl.
October 20th, 2002
4 of 8Sharpe returned to the Broncos, and also returned to killing the Chiefs secondary. Sharpe set a tight end record with 214 yards receiving in one game.
Sharpe would also post one of the nine multiple touchdown games in his career, including three against the Chiefs.
November 18th, 2001
5 of 8In a game against the Cleveland Browns, Sharpe passes Ozzie Newsome on the all time list for receptions by a tight end.
Sharpe would finish his Hall of Fame career with 815 receptions, 10,060 yards and 62 touchdowns, which were all records at the time.
December 14th, 2001
6 of 8In perhaps the defining moment offensively for the Ravens on their way to winning a Super Bowl, Sharpe goes 96 yards to score the games only touchdown for the Ravens.
Shannon would finish his playoff career with only four touchdowns total, but the quality of the final two are unmatched by most other tight ends ever in the NFL.
The Super Bowls
7 of 8Super Bowl XXXII, Super Bowl XXXIII and Super Bowl XXXV.
Shannon Sharpe played a key role in either getting to or winning all three. Sharpe was as dangerous a threat on offense as any wide receiver that any of his three Super Bowl squads could boast.
November 17th, 1996
8 of 8It is hard to believe that a man who had so may exceptional performances on the field would be most remembered for a game where he only had three receptions for 37 yards. Such is the magic of Shannon Sharpe.
Sit back and enjoy the show!
