NFL Free Agents 2011: 5 Players That Will Dazzle with New Teams
NFL free agency continues to take place, but we have already witnessed some big signings.
Some players elected to stay with their team, whereas others chose to start fresh. We'll see great productivity from guys on new teams, but we will also see a few free agent signings turn into busts.
The list that follows features only free agent signings. Kevin Kolb, Donovan McNabb and Chad Ochocinco are players that were traded last week, and they will shine with their new teams, but this isn't about NFL trades.
Here are five free agents that will shine in their new home.
Plaxico Burress, New York Jets
1 of 5Plaxico Burress makes his return to the NFL after a two-year jail stint. He will stay in New York, but surprisingly, he will be playing for the Jets and not the Giants.
Even though he hasn't played in two years, Burress will succeed in New York. The Jets won't be bringing Braylon Edwards back, which means Burress will be used and counted on quite a bit.
Mark Sanchez, Rex Ryan and the Jets will love having a big target on their side. Burress will come in handy when the Jets are in the red zone.
Steve Breaston, Kansas City Chiefs
2 of 5The Kansas City Chiefs desperately needed help at the wide receiver position. Matt Cassel could only count on Dwayne Bowe, but he was often doubled teamed.
With Steve Breaston, the Chiefs will have a speedy receiver that will make them a more dynamic team. They did draft Jonathan Baldwin in the 2011 NFL Draft, but I don't see him being much of a help immediately.
Neither did the Chiefs, which is why they landed Breaston.
Ray Edwards, Atlanta Falcons
3 of 5The Atlanta Falcons have spent most of their offseason strengthening their offense, but they knew they had to make a defensive splash. They cut a few players to free up cap space, and then they signed defensive end Ray Edwards.
The defense was a big problem for the Falcons last year, and with Edwards, they will finally be able to get consistent pressure on the quarterback. He had eight sacks last season, and his numbers will be the same if not better with Atlanta.
Matt Hasselbeck, Tennessee Titans
4 of 5Matt Hasselbeck wasn't wanted by the Seattle Seahawks, which is why he'll excel with the Tennessee Titans. The veteran quarterback has better talent around him in Tennessee, and he will make the most of it if he stays healthy.
He may be turning 36 next month, but Hasselbeck still has game. If he can throw for 3,000 plus yards with Mike Williams and Ben Obomanu as his top receivers, then he will be just fine with Kenny Britt.
The Titans might also be in play for Braylon Edwards, which would definitely help Hasselbeck.
Nnamdi Asomugha, Philadelphia Eagles
5 of 5Nnamdi Asomugha was the best available free agent this offseason, and shockingly, he landed with the Philadelphia Eagles.
There is no doubt that Asomugha will do extremely well with the Eagles in the NFC East. He'll pair up nicely with Asante Samuel and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
Asomugha may not blow you out of the water on the stat sheets, but that's because quarterbacks still won't be throwing his way.
