Kevin Durant Scores 66 Points at His Rucker Park Debut in New York City

Nicholas GossMay 31, 2018

Kevin Durant scored 66 points in his first time playing at New York City's legendary Rucker Park, and it was the first time the Oklahoma City superstar had ever been to the court.

"

โ€œI always wanted to play in Rucker Park all my life,โ€ Durant said in a postgame interview with park emcee Hannibalย via The New York Post.

"

His 66 points helped lead his team, DC Power, to victory over the Sean Bell All-Stars in theย Entertainers Basketball Classic Monday night.

โ€œSome nights are very special,โ€ DC Power guard Randy (White Chocolate) Gill said via The New York Post. โ€œThis is going down as one of those special nights.โ€

Gill also made a bold statement regarding Durant in the same Post article,ย โ€œRight now he is the best player in the world,โ€ said Gill, who knew Durant growing up.

"

Durant, who has led the NBA in scoring the past two seasons, caught fire from beyond the three point line in the game.

Early in the final quarter he hit five straight threes, and was 9-for-11 overall from three point land. His amazing shooting gave the standing-room only crows a real show.

Durant is one of the many NBA stars who have taken their talents to the Rucker Park court, including Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter and Stephon Marbury.

Durant's time on summer vacation hasn't stopped him from playing the game he loves. Last month he played inย Manilaย with other NBA stars in an exhibition, and there's little doubt he will stop playing inย exhibitionsย or streetball tournaments any time soon.

He is the type of player who would join a local mens' league if the NBA season was cancelled this winter and playing overseas was not an option. Durant lives for the game of basketball.

Durant said last week that he's "50-50" on playing overseas next season if the lockout cancels the upcoming NBA season.

After a slow start to the game, Durant heated up and gave the fans a night to remember at one of basketball's most legendary grounds.
