Nnamdi Asomugha Rumors: Huge Upgrade for Cowboys, Mistake for Jets
Nnamdi Asomugha teaming up with Darrelle Revis in New York could potentially create the greatest cornerback tandem in NFL history.
No matter how appealing Asomugha and Revis looks on paper, a team's defense is simply not made by just two players—it's a team effort.
If the Jets are to sign Asomugha, they' likely going to have to hand out a huge chunk of change, which is very significant, as the Jets were projected to be well over the league salary cap of $120 million, and that was prior to the Santonio Holmes $50 million contract.

New York has major holes defensively, and they're all along the front seven. If you just take a look at their depth chart as of right now, they have absolutely no defensive tackles or ends and only three inside linebackers.
How are the Jets going to add any decent players to fill their needs when they are so close to or even well over the $120 million cap?
It has been reported by NFL Network's Michael Lombardi that it's a two-team race for Asomugha, as it's a battle of the Ryan brothers: Dallas vs. New York.
The Jets could possibly have some major financial issues, and with that being said, Asomugha would be a huge upgrade for the Cowboys and a mistake for the Jets.
Following the conclusion of the lockout, the Cowboys made some shocking decisions in order to make themselves well-under the cap in order to make some big free-agent splashes.
To name a few, Dallas cut wide receiver Roy Williams and running back Marion Barber, two players who were both talented and productive during their time in Dallas, but the Cowboys wanted to clear up some cap space.
Could that cap space be for Asomugha? You bet.
The Cowboys are likely on the verge of offering Asomugha a rather large and nearly irresistible contract, if Lombardi's report is accurate.
Asomugha would join Terence Newman to create a very talented cornerback duo—nothing like Asomugha and Revis, but certainly fearful.
Asomugha to the Jets seems so appealing and flashy, but I do not think it's a wise move in a salary-capped era in the NFL, considering that the Jets are projected to be over the cap.
New York's general manager, Mike Tannenbaum, may have some tricks up his sleeve in order to squeeze so many large contracts under the league cap, but I firmly believe that the signing would be a mistake for the Jets.
