Week 1 NBA pickups

Hot Stove New YorkNov 4, 2008

Guards

Ramon Sessions (Bucks) - Sessions did a formidable job filling in for injured starting PG Luke Ridnour. He averaged 15 points and dished out 8.5 assists in two games as the starting point guard. He played 42 minutes against the Knicks on Sunday and scored 18 points, grabbed eight boards, dished out seven dimes and had three steals.

Mario Chalmers (Heat) - Chalmers played at least 35 minutes as the starting point guard in two of his three games last week. The rookie had eight assists twice and made at least one three in each of his games. In his first career game the former Jayhawk had 17 points, seven rebounds and eight assists against the Knicks.

Nick Young (Wizards) - Young had a strong game against the Pistons in his last outing scoring 23 points. He was 11-of-11 from the foul line. The former Trojan could be a useful source of points, threes and steals as a key bench player for the Wiz.

Nate Robinson (Knicks)- Robinson is excelling off the bench averaging 13 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.7 steals and five three-pointers through three games. With starting PG Chris Duhon struggling look for Nate to receive more minutes in the up-tempo Knicks offense.

Forwards

Quentin Richardson (Knicks) - Richardson lit up the Bucks last Sunday for a game high 28 points and drilled five from beyond the arc. He also contributed nine rebounds and played 37 minutes as the starting small forward. He already has 9 threes through three games and is averaging 17 points per game.

Darrell Arthur (Grizzles) - Arthur started his young NBA career  strong pulling down 15 and 10 rebounds in his first two games. He also had four blocks and three steals and played at least 27 minutes per game. With Darko Milicic in foul trouble the rookie received more playing time and showed why he was drafted in the first round of the 2008 NBA Draft.

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (Bucks) - Moute had his best game of his rookie campaign against the Knicks last week scoring 11 points, pulling down 11 boards and two steals in 35 minutes. Head Coach Scott Skiles likes Moute’s defensive skills and the second round draft pick out of UCLA could be a good source for FG%, steals and blocks.

Amir Johnson (Pistons) - As the starting PF Johnson blocked three shots against the Pacers last week. As long as he stays out of foul trouble he is a valuable option for blocks, steals and rebounds. He should receive more playing time with the Pistons trading Antonio McDyess to the Denver Nuggets.

Centers

Spencer Hawes (Kings) - With starting C Brad Miller serving a 5-game suspension Hawes stepped up in his absence last week. In his first game Hawes pulled down 14 boards and blocked six shots. In his next game he had 11 rebounds and three steals.

Josh Boone (Nets)- Boone had an impressive game as the starting C in his last game against the Warriors scoring 17 points, ripping down 14 boards and blocking three shots. It was the 15th career double-double for the second year player and he will continue to rebound and block shots as the starter.

Ronnie Turiaf (Warriors)- Turiaf blocked nine shots through his first two games and could be a useful pickup for rebounds and blocks.

Joel Przybilla (Trailblazers) - Pryz takes over as the starting C with Greg Oden out two-four weeks with a foot injury. The former Gopher is averaging nine rebounds per game and is a good source for FG% and blocked shots as well.
