BLAZERS GAME 2: Spurrrrfect...

Bleacher ReportOct 31, 2008

I am not sure what 2 say.

I guess I want to say that Portland fans have a tendency to party a little EARLY.

Sometimes it comes back to slap us in the jaw

The party to open off the season at the Rose Garden was nice, but the whole time I kept my eyes on the veteran Spurs.  I watched what the Spurs did as we were introducing our team to Earth, Wind, and Fire...and making speeches, having The Star Spangled Banner go on and on.

One thing they did was Tim Duncan came out, during player introduction, and grabbed the rim.  Tim Duncan was bored, and ready to WHOOP us.

I thought, "Those Spurs must think they're surrounded by 19,000 silly heads."

I mean, we have not BEATEN the Spurs in FOUR YEARS.  They've had our number since 1999.  Their veteran champion team must have thought we were silly partying like that.

They must have been thinking, "Let's ruin this."

The game started.

The Blazers did EVERYTHING RIGHT.

They were STUNNINGLY EFFECTIVE.  Their long arms out rebounded the Spurs, and led to five blocked shots in the first half.  They forced several turn overs, and had control of the game for the first three quarters over the four time world champs.

It RULED!

Except when Portland got up 12 with nine minutes left in the Fourth quarter...we did something WRONG.

We started to party.

Nicolas Batum (bless his soul) was waving the Blazer Fans to make some noise.  Then I thought...those Spurs must think, "It's time."

The Spurs began to play veteran EXCELLENCE by putting on a three point rampage to tie this game up, and even take a one point lead.

Our premature party was about to come back and slap our jaw.

As it has so many times in the past.

But, but, BUT...we have Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge.

And their PRISTINE, CALM, COLLECTED, PROFESSIONAL, TALENT pulled off one big play after another to make sure the party never died.

Up 98 - 97...Aldridge dropped a long distance shot that was, quite frankly, MAGIC.

Still, The Spurs scored and we were only up one point.

Outlaw took a shot, missed, we gave the ball up.

Now the Spurs were sure they were going to RUIN our party.

They almost did.

You could hear it in the collective MOANS of the Rose Garden LOYAL.

Mike Finley's WIDE OPEN shot...rimmed OUT.

The Blazers DID IT.  They beat the SPURS.  They made a HISTORIC CHANGE in the Spur's & Blazers franchise since the Spurs acquired TIM DUNCAN.  The Spurs had NEVER LOST a game ONE since Duncan...and they had NEVER GONE DOWN 0-2 SINCE 1996.

Sorry SPURS.  (NOT.)

In Portland, the party is still going...

It's time for me to go join.

Happy Halloween...
