What's up, ladies and gentlemen? My name is Eric Kanes and I am back here today with my weekly "Creature vs. Creature" article.

Now, when I first saw this week's topic, I was a little uncertain. Just like most of the other people on this site, I'm not too familiar with lucha libre wrestling. I've seen maybe a dozen lucha libre matches in my entire life so I wasn't too sure of who to go with. However, after going down the list of AAA, CMLL, & WWA tag team champions, the answer became obvious. The greatest lucha libre tag team is, without a doubt, Rey Misterio Sr. and Rey Mysterio Jr.

Now, I could go on and on and give you a play-by-play of their careers but that won't be necessary. In reality, it really comes down to two simple reasons behind why they are the greatest lucha libre tag team of all time.

Their Legacy

Out of any lucha libre tag team, I think it is safe to say that The Misterios have the most storied legacy.

Rey Misterio Sr. is a legend in Mexico and is one of the greatest and most well-known Mexican wrestlers of all time. Having wrestled for an astounding 31 years and having competed in a total of 26 Luchas de Apuestas (Mask vs. Mask/Hair) matches (which are considered a huge deal in Mexico), Misterio's legacy is undeniable.

However, that almost doesn't compare to the legacy of his nephew, Rey Mysterio Jr., who is widely considered to be the greatest Mexican wrestler and high flier of all time. Mysterio is also the first person to be inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame, being one of only six inductees. It is a safe assumption that Mysterio has the most storied legacy out of any Mexican wrestler.

Their Accomplishments

Rey Misterio Sr. and Rey Mysterio Jr. also happen to be the most accomplished lucha libre tag team. As a team, having wrestled in both AAA and WWA, The Misterios had one reign as the WWA Tag Team Champions. While that may not sound like much, keep in mind that only ten teams in history have held the prestigious titles.

As individuals, both are incredibly accomplished as well. Rey Misterio Sr. has an impressive 23-3 record in Luchas de Apuestas matches. He is also a former 2-time AAA World Middleweight Champion, AAA Television Champion, and WWO World Champion.

And as we've already established, Rey Mysterio Jr. is probably the most accomplished Mexican wrestler in histroy. In Mexico, he is a former National Trios Champion and National Welterweight Champion. He has also been inducted in both the AAA and Tijuana Hall of Fame.

In America, Mysterio is a 2-time World Champion, 2-time Intercontinental Champion, 8-time Tag Team Champion, a record 8-time Cruiserweight Champion, Royal Rumble winner, and only one of 23 Triple Crown Champions. According to the Wrestling Observer, he has also won 6 Best Flying Wrestler awards, Best Wrestling Maneuver, Match of the Year, Most Outstanding Wrestler, and Feud of the Year. He was also once ranked #9 on PWI's Top 500 list.

As you can see, there should be no doubt that the greatest lucha libre tag team of all time is The Misterios.

Now, of course, the argument could be made that the fact that they're accomplished as individuals means nothing when it comes to their significance as a tag team. However, a statement like that would be absurd. It's kind of like the difference between a team like Steve Austin & Shawn Michaels and a team like The Spirit Squad. When it really comes down to it, no other team can touch The Misterios.
