Joel Embiid Disciplined for Kicking Cade Cunningham in Viral Video During 76ers-Pistons

Joel Embiid has been disciplined by the NBA following his act against Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham on Wednesday.

Per ESPN's Kris Rhim, the Philadelphia 76ers star center was given a postgame flagrant 1 foul for kicking Cunningham while making a pass.

Cunningham was clearly in pain after being kicked in the groin, and Embiid blew past him for an easy bucket, and no foul was assessed on the play.

Embiid perhaps made a few enemies in Detroit on Wednesday, as he also started a brief skirmish after shoving Tolu Smith underneath the basket after a foul was called. Embiid earned a technical foul for his role in the fight.

Both the technical foul and the flagrant were his first of the year. Earning six flagrant 1 fouls in a season results in a one-game suspension.

Embiid put up 26 points and a season-high 15 rebounds in the win over the Pistons. The 32-year-old former MVP is averaging 19.6 points and 10 boards through his first seven games.

The new-look Sixers, featuring Embiid, LeBron James, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown, are off to a fantastic 8-1 start, looking just like the contenders fans imagined they would be coming into the season.

Detroit is the only team to have beaten them so far, winning their previous matchup in October, but the 76ers evened the score on Wednesday.

The two teams won't meet again until February. Whether Cunningham will harbor any negative feelings towards Embiid by then remains to be seen.
