2011 NBA Draft: Charlotte Bobcats Improve with Bismack Biyombo, Kemba Walker
The Charlotte Bobcats drafted UConn guard Kemba Walker and acquired Bismack Biyombo from the Sacramento Kings.
Talk about two players that will greatly improve Charlotte right away.
The only winner in the Bobcats organization before the draft was Michael Jordan, and it's not like he is going to suit up and play again.
Walker may be undersized and not considered a pure point guard, but he is a bona fide winner.
As for Biyombo, he isn't the most skilled offensive player, but defensively he is a freak. He has a 7'7'' wingspan, which helps him at blocking shots and rebounding even though he stands at only 6'9''.
Biyombo also has the possibility of being the starting center at the start of next season. The current projected starter is DeSagana Diop, but his Achilles injury and lack of productive play could help Biyombo's chance to step right in an anchor the defense.
Walker will fill the role of being the first guard off the bench, coming in at either point guard or shooting guard. He is a Jason Terry-type combo guard who can score at will. He will also be looking prove people wrong and show that size doesn't matter.
For being a team that made the playoffs and then dropped way off the following year, Charlotte has definitely turned their team around and found a new identity.
Charlotte now features a very young roster that will be ready to compete in the Eastern Conference.
If the Bobcats can't make the playoffs next season, I guarantee they will the following year as a No. 7 or 8 seed.
But for this to happen, they need to go out this offseason and pick up a scoring forward. With Biyombo and Tyrus Thomas starting, it will be difficult to score down low.
David West would be a great forward for the Bobcats to think about acquiring.
This youthful team will only grow, and regardless of them not owning any "star" players currently, their team chemistry and defense will be the keys to victories.
