2011 NBA Draft Results: Projecting Milwaukee Bucks' 2011-2012 Starting Lineup

Alec DoppJun 24, 2011

The Milwaukee Bucks made the biggest splash of the 2011 NBA Draft, and will be boasting an entirely new roster once the 2011-2012 season rolls around.

Former Bucks guard John Salmons was dealt to the Sacramento Kings, and forward Corey Maggette was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats in return for the Stephen Jackson, Beno Udrih, Shaun Livingston and the 19th overall selection.

As I'm sure you all know by now, Milwaukee used their first-round pick on 6'8", 225-pound forward Tobias Harris from Tennessee.

In the second round, the Bucks were once again sleight of hand, drafting 6'11" power forward Jon Leuer out of Wisconsin.

After all the post-draft reaction and analysis, what will Milwaukee's opening-night lineup look like?

Here's a sneak peak.

Grading, Scouting the Draft Selections

2 of 8

1st Round (19th overall): Tobias Harris, F, Tennessee

Harris has just one collegiate season under his belt, and is one of the youngest players featured in this year's class at just 18 years old.  As the Vols' featured forward last season, Harris averaged 15.3 points, 1.3 assists, 7.3 rebounds and shot over 30 percent from downtown.

Still, most experts say his ceiling is extremely high for his inexperience, and the lack of familiarity to the NBA game shouldn't affect his output once he hits the ground running next fall.

A starting job isn't necessarily a guarantee in 2011-2012, but expect Harris to be a superstar-caliber contributor on Scott Skiles' roster.

Grade: B+

2nd Round (40th overall): Jon Leuer, PF/F, Wisconsin

The Bucks elected to take another forward to upgrade their physicality on the boards for the prospective future in All Big-Ten forward Jon Leuer.

As ESPN's Jay Bilas uttered, Leuer is hardly given credit for his rare athleticism, as you wouldn't expect a 6'11" forward to be shooting 37 percent from downtown, averaging 18.3 points and 7.2 rebounds.

To call him a superstar in the making would be completely illogical, as Leuer will likely end up as a role player and key starter for many years to come.  Good value pick in the second round.

Grade: B+

Centers

3 of 8

Projected Depth Chart

1. Andrew Bogut: 7'0", 260 pounds

2. Jon Brockman: 6'7", 255 pounds

Breakdown

The Bucks have their center in Bogut, and at just 27 years old, he should be the main guy in the low post for many years to come.

Outside of a free-agent signing this offseason, this should be how Milwaukee's depth chart down low should look.

Power Forwards

4 of 8

Projected Depth Chart

1. Luc Richard Mbah a Moute: 6'8", 230 pounds

2. Larry Sanders: 6'11", 235 pounds

3. Jon Leuer: 6'11", 228 pounds

4. Ersan Ilyasova: 6'10", 235 pounds

5. Drew Gooden: 6'10", 250 pounds

Breakdown

It should be interesting to see how Scott Skiles handles his power forwards, as any number of them could be placed in the starting lineup at season's start.

But if I had to put a pin on it, I'd say that Luc Richard Mbah a Moute will get the opening night start, simply because his experience and youth (he's just 24 years old, remember) validate him for the starting position.

Even so, this depth chart is guaranteed to flux as players are implemented into the lineup, and I expect Leuer to have somewhat of a roll in his rookie campaign with Milwaukee.

Small Forwards

5 of 8

Projected Depth Chart

1. Carlos Delfino: 6'6", 230 pounds

2. Tobias Harris: 6'8", 226 pounds

Breakdown

The Bucks weren't very deep at the small forward position at the end of last season, and trading away Corey Maggette on draft day validated their selection of Tobias Harris.

Harris, 18, won't see the floor as a starter as Carlos Delfino has a much more firm grasp of Scott Skiles' offensive and defensive plans of attack, but it should be noted that Harris' talent makes him a threat to steal the job if things aren't working out.

Given a few months of development, the job should be Harris' to lose.  For the start of the season, however, Delfino is the man.

Shooting Guards

6 of 8

Projected Depth Chart

1. Stephen Jackson: 6'8", 215 pounds

2. Chris Douglas-Roberts: 6'7", 210 pounds

Breakdown

With the John Salmons for Stephen Jackson exchange, the Bucks will be receiving one of the league's most reliable shooting guards, as well as a seasoned veteran with much knowledge to give.

Last year, Jackson averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 35.9 minutes.  The Bucks are counting on Jackson to administer solid minutes for the entire season as younger players continue to develop.

Point Guards

7 of 8

Projected Depth Chart

1. Brandon Jennings: 6'1", 169 pounds

2. Keyon Dooling: 6'3", 195 pounds

3. Earl Boykins: 5'5", 133 pounds

Breakdown

Other than suffering a foot injury back in January, Brandon Jennings was the unprecedented leader of Milwaukee's offensive attack, averaging 16.2 points, 4.8 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 34.4 minutes.

Since it seems highly unlikely that the Bucks will pursue a free-agent point guard and/or undrafted free-agent this offseason, the job is obviously Jennings' to lose.

Projected Starting Lineup

8 of 8

Now that we've analyzed the projected depth chart at each position, let's put together a starting five for the Bucks heading into next season.

Here's what head coach Scott Skiles' starting lineup might look like:

Point Guard: Brandon Jennings

Shooting Guard: Stephen Jackson

Small Forward: Carlos Delfino

Power Forward: Luc Richard Mbah a Moute

Center: Andrew Bogut
