NBA Draft 2011 Prediction: 3 GMs Who Will Make Draft-Day Blunders
Just as there is certain to be an NBA Draft on Thursday night, there are guaranteed to be a few NBA general managers who make draft-day blunders.
Whether it be due to lack of experience or a less-than-satisfying track record, there are a handful of general managers who are in danger of choking in the spotlight of draft night.
Here are three general managers who will make draft-day blunders at the 2011 NBA Draft.
Lon Babby, Phoenix Suns
1 of 3Lon Babby, a long-time player-agent, was named general manager of the Phoenix Suns following last year's draft.
Since the draft lottery, there's been a great deal of speculation regarding whom the Suns should take with their No.13 pick.
The one name that's been mentioned more than any other is that of college sensation Jimmer Fredette.
Fredette would certainly electrify the crowed in Phoenix and once again give the Suns a clutch, go-to scorer, but the team has more glaring needs than that.
The Suns need defense, and Jimmer is known as a relatively weak defender.
Lon Babby's inexperience—combined with his apparent admiration of Jimmer Fredette—makes him a strong candidate to make a draft-day blunder.
David Kahn, Minnesota Timberwolves
2 of 3David Kahn doesn't have much to worry about with the No. 2 overall pick. It's almost a certainty at this point that he'll wind up with one of the top two players in the draft—either Kyrie Irving or Derrick Williams.
However, it's the No. 20 pick that should make Timberwolves fans worried.
Kahn has possibly the worst NBA Draft track record of any current general manager, drafting Ricky Rubio with the fifth overall pick in 2009 and Wesley Johnson with the fourth overall pick in 2010.
He also shipped Ty Lawson to Denver on draft night in 2009.
All in all, Kahn is fortunate to essentially have his decision made for him at No. 2.
However, given his underwhelming track record, he's a blunder candidate to keep an eye on when the T-Wolves pick at No. 20.
Chris Wallace, Memphis Grizzlies
3 of 3One look at Chris Wallace's track record, and you'll quickly understand why he appears on this list.
Wallace is the man responsible for drafting future D-League star Hasheem Thabeet with the second overall pick in 2009.
Just one year earlier, Wallace drafted Kevin Love and then traded him to Minnesota later that night.
Memphis doesn't have a first-round pick in this year's draft—they won't select a player until the 49th pick.
However, given Chris Wallace's horrid NBA Draft track record, he's an obvious candidate to make a draft day blunder—even with just the 19th pick of the second round.
