College Basketball Power Rankings: The 25 Worst-Dressed Coaches in the Country
All college basketball fans know there are those head coaches who don't exactly like to follow the dress code.
It's somewhat of an unspoken rule that if you're the head coach, you wear a suit and tie.
Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen.
As college basketball fans, we have had many examples of poorly dressed coaches in the past, starting with Bobby Knight. The guy was, and still is, infamous for always wearing a sweater.
What present day coaches are carrying on the tradition of being under-dressed?
Follow along as we count down the 25 worst-dressed college basketball coaches in the country.
25. Ben Howland, UCLA
1 of 25
The photo here says it all.
Ben Howland looks like the guy you might see running laps at the local YMCA every morning before work.
24. Kevin O'Neill, USC
2 of 25
Kevin O'Neill is included on this list because hair is always part of a man's look.
His hair is awful.
He's balding, and the remaining hair is very curly.
The guy looks like a mad scientist.
23. Dana Altman, Oregon
3 of 25
Yes, he wears a shirt with a tie, but there's no variety.
Just a plain white shirt with a dark tie.
Did I mention the comb over?
22. John Thompson III, Georgetown
4 of 25
I'm sure those white shoes he's wearing have something to do with a good cause, but I couldn't resist picking on John Thompson for it.
Also, he is very fond of sweatpants and sweatshirts when he's not on the sidelines.
21. Mark Fox, Georgia
5 of 25
That suit is awful.
I really don't need to say anything else.
But what is it with coaches wearing these white Nike's with a suit? I'm sure it's for some cause, but that doesn't make it look any better.
20. Jim Christian, TCU
6 of 25
I really don't like coaches who don't wear the jacket that came with the suit—Jim Christian is a perfect example.
It just looks unprofessional.
19. Lorenzo Romar, Washington
7 of 25
I have to pick on Lorenzo Romar here.
Are you really trying to pull off the original John Thompson towel-over-the-shoulder look?
18. Steve Alford, New Mexico
8 of 25
Do I really need to say it?
That red jacket is awful. Just awful.
17. Derek Kellogg, UMass
9 of 25
I know he's outside, but that's still no way for a coach to be dressed during a public appearance.
16. Jim Baron, Rhode Island
10 of 25
A bushy mustache definitely has a place on this list.
Jim Baron's 'stachce is really out there.
15. Mark Schmidt, St. Bonaventure
11 of 25
Mark Schmidt's shirt and tie look like they came from the local Wal-Mart.
Also, he is balding, and his goatee doesn't really work either.
14. Gib Arnold, Hawaii
12 of 25
Anytime you are the head coach at Hawaii, you're going to dress casually most of the time.
There's really not much else to say.
I wonder if he'll wear the lei while he's coaching.
13. Ken Bone, Washington State
13 of 25
Ken Bone must have one of the most epic comb overs in the game.
I know his attire is just fine, but that comb over is what got him on the list.
12. Phil Martelli, St. Joseph's
14 of 25
I don't really mind the way he dresses, but Phil Martelli's mug really scares me.
It doesn't help that he is suffering from the worst case of balding in America.
11. Rick Majerus, St. Louis
15 of 25
Rick Majerus doesn't look the team's head coach.
He looks like the team bus driver.
10. Rick Pitino, Louisville
16 of 25
Rick Pitino is famous for donning the all-white suit, otherwise known as Miami Vice night.
He's pictured here wearing the great cardinal red blazer.
9. Craig Robinson, Oregon State
17 of 25
Craig Robinson, brother of First Lady Michelle Obama, is notorious for never wearing a tie.
It's just something you don't see a whole lot these days.
And you would think that the brother of the first lady would be a well-dressed man!
8. Bruce Weber, Illinois
18 of 25
Bruce Weber has been known to be quite fond of the pumpkin blazer.
It's quite ugly, if you ask me.
7. Sidney Lowe, (formerly) NC State
19 of 25
He may be out of a job, but Sidney Lowe was known to sport the red blazer in support of his North Carolina State Wolfpack.
He came under a lot of heat for his wardrobe considering his teams were never very competitive in the ACC.
6. Mike Brey, Notre Dame
20 of 25
The man who keeps trying to popularize the turtleneck, Mike Brey has never worn a dress shirt or a tie.
Ever.
I don't think he ever takes the turtleneck off, either.
5. Oliver Purnell, DePaul
21 of 25
Another proponent of the turtleneck, Oliver Purnell also came under fire at Clemson for sporting the bright orange blazer in support of his Tigers.
I wonder if he'll ever purchase a blue blazer to support his DePaul team.
4. Mark Gottfried, NC State
22 of 25
During his time at Alabama and North Carolina State, Mark Gottfried has worn a lot of red.
He's pictured here with the dark red blazer and the striped tie.
Looks like something straight out of the 1970's.
3. John Beilein, Michigan
23 of 25
You all will be shocked to see John Beilein this high on the list, but I just can't get over the ugly neon yellow color of the shirt he's wearing.
That maize color just doesn't look right on anyone.
2. Bruce Pearl, (formerly) Tennessee
24 of 25
Bruce Pearl may have committed many NCAA infractions during his time at Tennessee, but I give him credit for never being afraid to wear that bright orange blazer to support his Vols.
1. Bob Huggins, West Virginia
25 of 25
There's no argument here.
It's common knowledge Bob Huggins is the worst-dressed coach in America.
It'd be a miracle if he was ever seen wearing anything other than a tracksuit similar to the one he's wearing in the photo.
