Terrelle Pryor Leaves Ohio State Football: 5 Potential NFL Landing Spots
With news breaking that Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor will leave the school instead of face at five-game suspension, with an NCAA investigation possibly adding more to that.
Pryor will have options. He can either enter the NFL Supplemental Draft or sit out the entire 2011 season.
It makes much more sense for him to enter the Supplemental Draft, which is what we think he will do.
With Pryor available in the July lottery, which teams will lay claim to the talented but troubled passer?
We take a look at five teams who could have Pryor on their radar.
1. Arizona Cardinals
1 of 5
When your available quarterbacks are Derek Anderson, John Skelton and Max Hall you are going to be linked to every possible upgrade at the position.
And that's what Terrelle Pryor would be in Arizona.
Pryor was a career 61 percent passer at Ohio State and shows the agility to be a run/pass threat much like Cam Newton is seen as being.
In fact, the two compare very well in terms of on-field ability and even questionable character off the field.
Arizona has to be considered a favorite to put in a bid for Terrelle Pryor.
2. Seattle Seahawks
2 of 5
Seattle is faced with the option of re-signing Matt Hasselbeck and letting him compete with backup Charlie Whitehurst, or simply handing the job to Whitehurst next year and hoping it works.
Either way, Seattle could benefit from adding Terrelle Pryor at a low-cost option in the Supplemental Draft.
Seattle needs a young quarterback to begin developing, either as an eventual franchise quarterback or as trade bait down the road.
If Pryor can be had for a mid-round pick, and we believe he can be, the gamble is worth taking a chance on Pryor's athletic ability and arm.
3. Washington Redskins
3 of 5
As soon as it became known the Redskins would release or trade Donovan McNabb we began linking them to all possible available quarterbacks.
Terrelle Pryor is more of the same.
Mike Shanahan has been great at developing quarterbacks in to legitimate NFL starters but taking a 29-year old career back up in John Beck and making him a starter is absurd. Beck is not Kurt Warner.
Pryor would give Washington a mobile quarterback to run Shanahan's offense, which likes to move the pocket and make plays on the run.
4. Philadelphia Eagles
4 of 5
The Eagles would love to trade at least one of their backup quarerbacks this offseason and would actually be open to trading both Kevin Kolb and Mike Kafka to the right team.
If even one player is traded the Eagles and Andy Reid must move to sign a replacement.
Why not draft one instead?
Pryor would fit in well behind Michael Vick and is an ideal fit for the Philadelphia offense. He's mobile, accurate and has the arm to push the ball up field.
Keep the Eagles in mind if/when Pryor enters the Supplemental Draft.
5. Indianapolis Colts
5 of 5
What happens if Peyton Manning is injured? Curtis Painter comes in.
Indianapolis needs a change-of-pace quarterback who could come in and shake a defense up should Manning go down. What they do not need is a Manning clone that will not force the defense to change their gameplan or think when a new quarterback hits the field.
Pryor would be an excellent option. He could sit for two or three years before he was asked to see regular season action, by which time he could learn from perhaps the smartest NFL quarterback of all time.
And for the price of a 2012 fourth or fifth-round pick it would definitely be worth it.
