Jay Triano out as Toronto Raptors Head Coach, Will Remain with Team Management
All the news surrounding the NBA today is Miami beating Dallas last night and Shaquille O'Neal retiring. One thing all Toronto Raptors fans have to talk about now is Jay Triano getting ousted as the head coach in Toronto.
Brian Colangelo confirmed today that Jay Triano was fired as the Toronto Raptors' head coach. Although he was fired from his job as the head coach, Triano will still remain with team management, which is something he deserves.
Triano is a better coach than his 87-142 record shows. He never had the real talent a team needs in order to have a good record. For the past few years, the Raptors have not had a solid small forward,—mainly failed experiments (see Hedo Turkoglu)—a real center and the shooting guard position was uncertain until the second half of this season.
This was the trouble Triano had with his team. Had his players been better, he would have had a much better record, but with a rebuilding Raptors squad, there never was the chance to shine as a top head coach in this league.
Colangelo has stated current Raptors assistant coach under contract, P.J. Carlesimo, will not take over as head coach of the team.
Triano will remain in Raptors management, this time as Bryan Colangelo's assistant. It seemed as if both made a great friendship with each other, and it was only right for Triano to stay on the team somehow. As a Canadian, it is better for Triano to be with a team like the Raptors compared to another team.
With this event happening, there are two thoughts now on Bryan Colangelo's mind.
What will the Raptors do at the draft, and who will replace Jay Triano as coach of the young Raptors squad next season?
