Bartolo Colon, New York Yankees End the A's Four-Game Win Streak
Coming of their first three game series sweep of the season against the Baltimore Orioles, the Oakland Athletics had plenty of momentum with the New York Yankees coming to town on Memorial Day.
The momentum came to a screeching halt as Bartolo Colon pitched a four-hit complete game shutout, ending the A’s four-game winning streak beating the A's 5-0 in front of a sold out crowd.
The A’s came into the game 5-1 since the Brian Fuentes and Bob Geren drama last week. A’s ace Trevor Cahill was on the bump Monday, coming off two loses with a no-decision sandwiched in between. Cahill started the season with a 6-0 record.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Cahill struggled in the first inning, giving up three runs on three hits. He seemed to settle down after that, allowing just one hit over the next four innings.
Yankees starter Bartolo Colon entered the game with a 2-3 record. Colon is having an uneven season at best. Uneven is also a good word to describe the run support the Yankees have given their starting pitching lately.
To be fair, Colon did pitch eight scoreless innings in a 4-1 Yankees win, getting a no-decision against the Baltimore Orioles on May 16. But in his next start, he gave up six runs in six innings in a 7-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Colon was on his game Monday, dealing all day long and giving up only four hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
It turns out that Colon wouldn’t need much help at all.
Derek Jeter led off the game with single, giving him 2,981 hits for his career. Mark Teixeira brought Jeter home by hitting his 16th home run of the season, a two-run bomb to right field to take a 2-0 lead.
Alex Rodriguez walked and Robinson Cano knocked him in with a double to deep right field to put the Yankees ahead 3-0 in the first inning, but Cano was thrown out as he overran second base.
Colon cruised through his first five innings, giving up just one hit, a double by Josh Willingham. Kevin Kouzmanoff singled in the top of the fifth, then Coco Crisp reached base on a fielder's choice, with Kouzmanoff breaking up the double play.
Colon got Daric Barton to ground out, ending the A’s only threat since the bottom of the first inning when Josh Willingham doubled.
After the bad start and then finally finding his groove, Cahill found himself in a jam in the top of the seventh, walking Brett Gardner and Francisco Cervelli back to back. Gardner stole second base, and then Cervelli and Gardner pulled off a double steal. Gardner scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeter, to put New York ahead 4-0, ending the day for Cahill.
Craig Breslow relieved Cahill and was able to get Granderson to ground out to second to end the inning. In the eighth inning, Breslow struck out his first two batters, he then gave up a triple to Robinson Cano, but got out of the inning by striking out Jorge Posada.
The Yankees shut out the A’s for the second straight time.
