WWE CvC: Why Carlito Is Most Deserving of a Second Chance

Ryan FryeJun 6, 2011

Second chances are something America has prided it's self upon for decades. We are a very forgiving nation--just look at Michael Vick as one of many terrific examples of America's forgiving ways.

So, when posed the question of who deserves a second chance, I looked at somebody who needed redemption. A choice that has made mistakes in the past, but is now older and hopefully wiser.

I looked around, and did a thorough search for Superstars the WWE has released over the past couple of years.

I could have chosen no-names such as Gavin Spears, Luke Gallows or even Grease wanna-be's Deuce N' Domino.

But, what kind impact did those guys make? I mean, Spears hardly received fifteen minutes before he was sent packing.

I could have totally ignored TNA and gone with Rob Van, D'Angelo Dinero, Jeff Hardy, Mr. Anderson and Kurt Angle. However, don't we already see them on weekly television?

To me, those names have went no where. I can turn on iMPACT Wrestling and watch them.

Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas?

Pssh, when was the last time the WWE cared about it's tag division? Why don't we go ahead and make Daniel Bryan the WWE Champion?

C'mon people!

And Batista?

Hasn't he already hogged the main event spotlight long enough?

Then, I looked at an apple. Yes, an apple drove me to my CvC choice.

"I spit in the face of people who don't want to be cool"

That was the motto of a very successful mid-carder in the WWE who had the potential to become a main event player for years to come.

That was the motto of a man simply known as Carlito.

During his time in the WWE, Carlito turned everything he was given into gold.

His debut feud with John Cena was tremendous, and the WWE continued this sporadic feud throughout Carlito's career.

In my opinion, Carlito helped John Cena get to the spot he is at today. Their feuds really got Cena over with the crowd, the first of which led to Cena becoming the WWE Champion.

His Carlito's Cabana show, which stemmed from him interrupting Piper's Pit at WrestleMania 21, was always entertaining and stirred up controversy.

After WrestleMania 21, he was drafted to Monday Night Raw and won the United States Championship.

In an elimination chamber match for the WWE Championship, Carlito made it into the final two.

This showed us the WWE had all the confidence in the world in Carlito. For whatever reason, this was the closet he would ever come to a world championship in the WWE.

He became a tag team wrestler, forming teams with Chris Masters, Santino Marella and Primo.

After breaking up, all three of his tag partners haven't found much success, other than a summer push that resulted in absolutely nothing for Masters.

Carlito possesses all the tools to be a world champion in the WWE.

Mic skills? Check. In-Ring skills? Check. Charisma? Check.

Carlito was released because he failed a drug test and refused to go to rehab. While I cannot defend this, we've seen the WWE give second chances to the likes of Chris Masters and Jeff Hardy in the past.

Heck, even Rey Mysterio has failed a Wellness test. Was he released?

I don't think so. Mysterio has even received a world title reign since. This is obviously a double standard on the WWE's part.

At 32, it is now or never for Carlito. He is currently wrestling in his native Puerto Rico, where he is a star. With all the tools, he just needs a second chance.

Many are given second chances, and for much worse things I may add. So with time ticking down on his physical prime, the WWE needs to tap into the untapped potential of the Caribbean star before it's too late.
