Tom Brady and the 10 Most Hated Players in the NFL

Tony SantorsaMay 20, 2011

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has arguably been the most hated player in the NFL over the past decade, either because of his three Super Bowl rings or because people can't stand his competitive nature.

In a report released earlier this year, it was revealed that Brady was among the most hated athletes in not only the NFL but the world as well, according to Forbes

Which other NFL players sit along with Brady as the most hated?

Here is my opinion on who the top 10 most hated athletes in the NFL are.

I hope you all enjoy—remember to leave all the feedback you'd like!

Special note: Thankfully, Brett Favre is retired, for now, and is not present on this list.

10. Bart Scott

New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott spent the first seven years of his carer alongside Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis—and not only did Scott learn how to become a top linebacker, but he also learned how to trash talk.

Now as a member of the Jets, Scott has perfected his trash-talking skills, and he's taking it to another level.

Scott has threatened the New England Patriots' Wes Welker and has even told the media how "everyone" wants to be the New York Jets. Yeah, okay, Bart.

9. Carson Palmer

Carson Palmer may be a surprise to be seen on the list, but he's definitely talked his way into it.

Earlier this offseason, Palmer publicly stated that he wants to be traded or he'll retire if he enters the 2011 season as a Cincinnati Bengal.

This is a lot of talk out of a quarterback who's been mediocre at best over the past five seasons. Ever since 2006, Palmer has only completed 62 percent of his passes, he's thrown 20 interceptions twice and his highest passer rating has been 86.7.

8. Antonio Cromartie

Ever since Antonio Cromartie joined the Jets on the biggest stage in the world, he's been not able to control his mouth—he simply just doesn't get it.

It all started on the HBO series Hard Knocks when Cromartie revealed that he's got eight kids and struggled naming all of them. From there, Cromartie has been involved in a "Twitter battle" with Matt Hasselbeck and even publicly called Tom Brady an "a--hole."

7. Randy Moss

I know, for one, that I am the biggest Randy Moss hater out there—I guarantee it.

Moss is nothing but an immature child, and he's one of the most self-centered players in the NFL.

In 2010, Moss became the first player in NFL history to play for three teams in just one season—all for bad reasons. Moss had talked his way out of New England and then talked his way out of Minnesota—the guy doesn't know when to shut his mouth. He just doesn't get it!

6. Cortland Finnegan

Tennessee Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan is one of the most "scummy" players out there who can't stop running their mouths. In fact, Finnegan's "goal" is to simply talk so much trash that he'll get the opposing player to snap.

In 2010, Finnegan got under the Houston Texans' Andre Johnson's skin so badly that Johnson couldn't take it anymore and let Finnegan have it as a fight broke out.

I don't know about you, but I have zero respect for Cortland Finnegan.

5. Terrell Owens

Terrell Owens is the ultimate prima donna wide receiver in the NFL.

If you take a look at how Merriam-Webster defines prima donna, it perfectly describes T.O.:

"

"A vain or undisciplined person who finds it difficult to work under direction or as part of a team"

"

Owens has the maturity level of a 12-year-old boy, and he demands to be the center of attention—which disables him from being able to work on a team.

4. Jay Cutler

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has certainly seen his popularity take a tumble over the past few months.

Prior to Cutler sitting out the entire second half of the 2010 NFC Championship Game, he wasn't the most-liked guy.

Cutler was forced out of Denver and now is a Chicago Bear—where he's not the most liked as of right now.

3. Tom Brady

If you're not a New England Patriots fan, then chances are you hate Tom Brady.

Why is Brady so hateable? Is it because he's a three-time Super Bowl champion, or is it because he's the winningest quarterback in the Super Bowl era, or is it simply because of his long ponytail? I'm not sure.

Fans tend to be jealous of Brady and feel that his competitive nature is nothing but "crying to the refs."

Either way, Brady is the NFL's best player entering 2011—in my opinion.

2. Michael Vick

After Michael Vick was convicted of dog fighting back in 2007, nearly no one wanted Vick to ever see success again. Well, he did.

In 2010, Vick earned the starting job as the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback and led the Eagles to a 10-6 record and a division title.

Vick had a stellar season as his name floated around as a candidate for NFL MVP. However, Vick wasn't named the league MVP, but he earned the 2010 Comeback Player of the Year Award.

1. Ben Roethlisberger

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is the most hated player in the NFL today.

Roethlisberger should be hated for two reasons:

1. He's nothing but trouble off of the field. His maturity level is so low that it's gotten him in trouble several times with the law and the NFL.

2. He may be a winner, but he's very overrated as an NFL quarterback.

Chances are if you disagree with one of those two reasons, then you probably agree with the other—which makes Roethlisberger the most hated player in the NFL.
