Denver Broncos: Bill Romanowski & the 5 Most Infuriating Players in Team History

Adam OdekirkMay 18, 2011

Denver Bronco fans are a pretty loyal bunch. They always want to see the best in their players and will explain away a lot of stupidity in their defense.

Sometimes though, there are just some guys that make you so mad that your blood runs hot and you can't help but curse their names.

The Broncos have had a few players fit that bill. There are just certain players who have done things (or not done things) that make your furious.

Here is a list of players who have underperformed, misbehaved and just fallen short and try as fans might, they can't help but be furious about it.

Ashley Lelie

The talented product of Hawaii was a thing of beauty running down the field...some of the time.

Ashley Lelie could make a catch that would bring fans to their feet and leave the defense wondering how he did that.

On the other hand, he could drop the most well placed and accurate pass a quarterback could throw.

The inconsistency was enough to make fans pull their hair out and eventually the Broncos had seen enough balls hit the ground as well before parting ways.

Dale Carter

There is nothing worse then seeing a guy become the highest paid defensive back in the league and then subsequently have a terrible season.

As if it could get worse, fans didn't even get to see if Carter would redeem himself as he would miss the entire 2000 season because of his fourth substance abuse violation.

On the bright side it might have been a blessing in disguise because a second season of watching Carter get beat would have caused many more fans to go grey early.

Jay Cutler

There is not a lot that needs to be said here. Cutler, much like his predecessor, is a very polarizing figure in Denver history.

If you loved him then you slapped your head and said "Come on Jay" in an encouraging way. If you hated Jay then slapped your head and said "Come on Jay" with venom in your voice.

Eventually, everybody got tired of seeing him mope around the field, throw bad picks and do nothing to inspire his team.

The most infuriating thing is that even though there were those who stuck by him, he still wanted to force his way out of Denver.

Dre' Bly

He was brought in to play opposite Champ Bailey and be a turnover factory because teams would be forced to throw his way for fear of throwing on Champ.

Nobody mentioned that for every turnover Bly was able to manufacture he would be burned about 10 times leading up to it—a statistic that opposing teams were happy to find themselves on the winning end of many times.

His constant mis-times jumps, poorly jumped routes and attempts to strip instead of tackle made him an infuriating player to watch in a Broncos uniform.

Bill Romanowski

Bill Romanowski could be everyone's favorite Bronco one minute and take an atrocious penalty that set the team back the next minute.

His contributions were vital (most of the time) to the Broncos Super Bowl teams but spitting in the face of JJ Stokes was an embarrassment for the franchise.

The problem with Romanowski was that these "rages" that he was known to be thrown into would be costly and cast shame on the franchise.

That alone made it him hard to watch sometimes.

Honorable Mentions

Gerald Perry: A solid offensive lineman, when he wasn't caught soliciting prostitutes on Colfax.

Travis Henry: See explanation of Dale Carter and ask yourself why another guy like that would be signed?

Randy Gradishar: It is INFURIATING that a player like Gradishar who had over 2,000 tackles in only 10 years of professional football is not in the NFL Hall of Fame.
