NFL Trade Speculation: 5 Most Likely Destinations for Chad Ochocinco
Chad Ochocinco won't be a Bengal come 2011. There has been constant verbal sparring between himself and Bengal's coach, Marvin Lewis, since the 2010 season came to a close.
Lewis has gone as far as to say Ochocinco tweets about joining other teams just to keep himself in the news. Ochocinco has publicly displayed his desire to get away from his long time head coach.
While he isn't the all-pro caliber WR he once was, he is still a formidable No. 1 option.
The following five destinations make the most sense.
5. Chicago Bears
1 of 5
The Bears had trouble at receiver in 2010. Jay Cutler is one of the league's better QBs, but his options downfield are limited.
If this team is to compete in the NFC North, they'll need to upgrade the position. The Lions, Vikings and Packers should all have dominant defenses in 2011, and without an option downfield, the Bears could find themselves flailing in the division.
The Bears aren't far off from a Superbowl as they showed us in 2010. However, they need to spread opposing defenses. Lining up a guy like Ochocinco opposite Johnny Knox just might do the trick.
4. St. Louis Rams
2 of 5
In such a weak division, the Rams should already contend for a playoff spot in 2011.
There were rumblings of them trading up for Julio Jones in April's draft. Seeing as that fell through,
they need a bona-fide No. 1 option. Laurent Robinson currently sits atop the depth chart.
Ochocinco could work with the young Sam Bradford, thus leading the team to immediate success. The Rams rushing offense is already one of the league's elite on the shoulders of RB Steven Jackson. If they could obtain a formidable receiver, they would seriously contend in 2011.
3. Washington Redskins
3 of 5
With Santana Moss' contract expiring, the Skins will need to make a move at the receiver position.
Washington is likely to begin their hunt for a QB if/when the lockout is finally lifted. The addition of a guy like Ochocinco would make it a more attractive destination for QBs.
Assuming they don't resign Moss, Anthony Armstrong is the No. 1 receiver on their depth chart. The need at the position is glaring.
2. New England Patriots
4 of 5
The Patriots have no trouble converting character. When Randy Moss became a Patriot in 2007, his
career was instantly rejuvenated.
If Ochocinco had the chance to work with a guy like Brady and a coach like Belichick, he might learn to stay quiet and put the team ahead of himself.
New England already has a potent offense. It is highlighted by young promising tight ends and short yardage receivers. A guy like Ochocinco would give them the option downfield they have been missing since the departure of Moss and immediately coin them as a favorite in the AFC.
1. Oakland Raiders
5 of 5
The Raiders need help at WR.
Last season they finished with the leagues second worst passing offense, averaging a dismal 189 yards per game.
Guys like Darrius Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy have potential, but they aren't No. 1 guys. The addition of Ochocinco would immediately improve a Raiders offense which was forced to rely heavily on the run in 2010.
This addition would spread opposing defenses and create even more room for McFadden and Michael Bush moving forward. If Ochocinco goes to Oakland, they could immediately contend for a division title and make some noise in the playoffs.
His relationship with Hue Jackson makes Oakland the favorite.
