How Long Can Ken Griffey Jr. Keep It Up?
I don’t watch baseball much, but when I do, I’m watching the man: Ken Griffey Jr.
He has been a consistent hitter when healthy and can still drive a long ball. At age 38 he is still looking to send baseballs into the next city with the most beautiful swing in baseball.
When he first started playing for the Reds, he had a horrible hamstring injury that took some off some of his great outfield speed. But nonetheless, if he can reach the ball, you better believe that the 38 year-old can make plays just as well as a 20 year-old can.
He is a fun player to watch and I’m pretty sure he wasn’t one of the athletes named in the Mitchell Report either.
When he first started playing pro baseball, it was said that he would shatter Aaron’s record and possibly hit over 800 home runs. If he hadn’t had so many injuries, he more than likely would have.
I am just curious as to how much his age is going to be a factor next season. It is obvious that his age and his past injuries are catching up to him.
He has been an idol of mine since I was a kid and I want to see this man win a world series. I just don’t know if he has the time left to do it with the Reds.
The only way he could win one is if he was traded to a better team and with his contract, that isn’t happening any time soon.
If you love the game, you love Griffey. It’s that simple.
He plays with passion and he plays the right way. He is not a selfish guy who hogs the camera. He just goes out and has fun with kids half his age.
The question remains: Kenny, can you still hit the ball at age 38 like you did at 28?
We will find out next season. Good Luck!
