NFL Trade Speculation: What Would It Take to Pry Jay Cutler Away from Chicago?
Jay Cutler's last football memory was sitting on a cold bench, watching his team lose. Afterward, he was constantly ridiculed and mocked for being injured and not playing during the most important game of his short career.
Many Bears fans wanted Jay Cutler to be kicked off the team. They called him a coward and a wimp. The more reserved Bears fans understood that a sprained MCL is enough to keep you out of any game. They were disappointed in a loss, but understood where the star quarterback was coming from.
Both Cutler's teammates and coaches supported his decision in public, but did many actually lose faith in their franchise quarterback?
Is this one lingering memory enough for Chicago to trade away their best quarterback since.....well, maybe best quarterback ever?
Here is a look at what it might take to pry Jay Cutler away from Chicago.
5. A Peer Mediator

In Elementary School we had someone in my class called a peer mediator. This 10 year-old kid would sit down with two other 10 year-old kids who were in a fight and attempt to talk through the problem. Sounds like a smart idea, right?
Jay Cutler needs to go to a peer mediator. I'm sure he was hearing about his injury from everyone except his mother. Jay Cutler needs to sit down with a peer mediator and his peers and take time to sort out their differences.
If the peer mediator thinks it would be best for Cutler to move on, then Cutler would do well to listen to his peer mediator.
4. Kristin Cavallari

Jay Cutler's recent fiancee, Kristin Cavallari, is a California girl through-and-through. Do you see her wearing that Dodgers hat?
Carmelo Anthony's wife, La La Vasquez, was rumored to be the catalyst behind Carmelo leaving Denver.
If Cavallari wants out of Chicago, can Cutler say no to that face?
3. Draft Picks

Now we can get to the serious consideration of the original question.
What would it really take to pry Jay Cutler away from Chicago?
First, a boatload of draft picks. When Chicago traded for Jay Cutler back in April of 2009, they had to give up two first-round picks and a third-round pick for Cutler. The Broncos only had to give up a fifth-round pick.
If a team wants to make a serious attempt to get Cutler from Chicago, more than three picks will be necessary. Remember that back in 2009, Cutler was rather upset with the Broncos. Cutler demanded a trade and three draft picks was the best offer they received.
This time, Cutler doesn't necessarily want to leave Chicago. He certainly isn't demanding a trade out of the Windy City. Three draft picks just isn't enough.
If a team wants Cutler, they will need to cough up some serious draft picks. Two first-round, two second-round, and a possible fourth-round would probably be enough.
2. Starting Quarterback

The second thing necessary to pry Cutler away from Chicago is a team willing to give up a starting quarterback for him.
Not only did Chicago give up draft picks for Cutler, they also traded their starting quarterback, Kyle Orton. Denver didn't want a second-string or third-string quarterback to go with their draft picks, they wanted a starting quarterback.
Orton had won games while in Chicago. He had experience running an offense. The Broncos weren't going to give up their franchise quarterback for a chance to draft a rookie quarterback. The Broncos wanted a proven starter. Orton isn't the greatest, but he was a starter in the NFL.
In order for a team to get Cutler from Chicago, they will need to part ways with their current starting quarterback. I'm sorry Arizona, but Derek Anderson, Max Hall and John Skelton won't do.
1. A Disgruntled Jay Cutler
5 of 5
The only real way that a team could pry Jay Cutler from Chicago is if Jay Cutler is upset with the Bears.
That is exactly what happened with Cutler and the Broncos. Cutler got upset when he found out that the Broncos had tried to bring in Matt Cassel. Once Cutler heard that news, he demanded a trade, or as some would say, he threw a hissy fit.
The Broncos ultimately gave in to their quarterback's demands and the rest is history.
In order for history to repeat itself, which is highly unlikely, Cutler is going to need to get angry in Chicago. He could become angry with the fans, or coaches, or management, or teammates or his favorite deep dish pizza shop. It doesn't matter who Cutler is angry with, he just needs to become disgruntled and demand another trade.
