2011 NFL Draft Results: The Four Top Teams Who Got Screwed on Day 2
Day 2 of the 2011 NFL Draft is in the books.
The Day 1 events were overshadowed by a plethora of trades and a number of talented players on the board in Rounds 2 and 3.
The New England Patriots owned five picks going in, the San Diego Chargers were close behind and more than few teams were looking to address major offensive and defensive needs with full overhauls.
The San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots found future quarterbacks and only one of them had to trade up for it.
Wide receivers found a home, cornerbacks flew off the board like Harry Potter books off shelves and defensive linemen still made a major impact in this draft.
Not everybody has to be happy, though, and here are five teams that got screwed on Day 2.
Carolina Panthers
1 of 4
The Panthers traded away their second-round pick last year for Armanti Edwards and left them out in the cold after selecting Cam Newton at No. 1 in the draft.
The Patriots used the pick to bolster their secondary and the Panthers had to wait until Round 3 to add DT Terrell McClain and DT Sione Fua.
They got two different styles of player at the same position, something they could have accomplished with a first-round pick on Marcell Dareus.
Basically, the Panthers screwed themselves last year with Armanti Edwards and Jimmy Clausen.
They paid for it this year.
Atlanta Falcons
2 of 4
The Atlanta Falcons spent a lot to get up for Roddy White from the Cleveland Browns.
With that late second-round pick they acquired, the Browns selected wide receiver Greg Little, a rising talent who could have easily helped the Falcons as well.
Atlanta also did not get the chance to address their needs for a pass rusher and settled for inside linebacker Akeem Dent in the third round.
This a big mistake for the Falcons.
Offensively they got better, but this team still has major issues defensively that Julio Jones cannot fix.
They are also screwed for next year as well.
New York Jets
3 of 4
The New York Jets traded away their second-round pick for Antonio Cromartie and now have to re-sign him in free agency if they wish to keep him.
With the second-round pick, the Chargers selected outside linebacker Jonas Mouton after taking a defensive back with their earlier second-round pick.
The Jets ended up with two 300-plus pound defensive tackles.
That was a major position of need, but they also stand to lose a ton of talent in free agency, possibly even Cromartie, and right now they have no plan for that.
St. Louis Rams
4 of 4
The St. Louis Rams needed a No. 1 receiver. Instead they got a defensive end with a ton of upside, an H-back/tight end who can't in-line block and a big wide receiver with questionable speed.
Unfortunately for St. Louis, they didn't get what they wanted and they ended up reaching for Austin Pettis in the third round and added Lance Kendricks in the second.
The two of them combined do not add up to Julio Jones, and their search for a No. 1 receiver continues.
Sam Bradford will make the most of these additions, but these are not the players he needed or wanted.
