Oklahoma City Gives Old Seattle Supersonics Franchise a "New" Groove

Courtney BuchananApr 29, 2011

Let's face it; Seattle's breakup with the Sonics may not sit well with a lot of Seattle fans, but honestly how many breakups usually go well?

What this move does is it gives a city of grateful fans and players a "new" start.

What this move has proven to do is to give these players a new identity.  New is sometimes better right? (Don’t believe me look at what new did for Shaq, Mike Vick, and LeBron James).

Kind of like when you get a new car, you value it more than that old beat up hooptie you had before, or when you enter a "new" relationship, "new" home, etc.

The point I'm making is the "new" location and "new" team name give these players and fans a "new" fire.

This gives the city and fans a part of history that only they can be a part of.  Something "new" to fight for.

This is why I think they have thrived so well in Oklahoma City.  Kevin Durant or the players won't say it, but they are happy with the move.

Let’s face it Seattle, the Supersonics hadn't been contenders for a real title since the days of Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp.

Honestly, one would have to be nice to say they were contenders even then.  This seems to be what these young players needed, a fresh "new" start.

From the electric blue jerseys to the thunderous crowd, this franchise has got a "new" groove than can't be denied.
