2011 NBA Draft: Brandon Knight of Kentucky Wildcats Staying in NBA Draft

Eric WrightMay 6, 2011

University of Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight has announced that he will keep his name in the 2011 NBA draft, thus ending his career at Kentucky after one year.

Citing information he got at Kentucky's NBA combine held this past week in Lexington, Knight told reporters that he got confirmation he would be a top-10 pick in the upcoming NBA draft and that he couldn't pass up that opportunity.

Knight was Kentucky's leading scorer last season, averaging 17.3 PPG and setting the all-time Kentucky freshman scoring record. He also averaged 4.2 assists per game for the Wildcats. Knight plans on being a point guard in the NBA.

While he acknowledged struggling with the decision to stay in the draft or stay in school, Knight said he had to leave but would "definitely" come back and get his degree.

Knight is probably best known for his game-winning shots against Princeton and Ohio State in the NCAA tournament, and his growth as a player over the course of the season saw him rise from a possible first-round pick to a definite lottery selection.

John Calipari announced his pleasure with the move on his Twitter account, stating, "He's a great kid. I'm happy to see @BrandonKnight12 taking the steps to make his dreams come true. We will miss him."
