NFL Draft 2011: Who Might the Green Bay Packers Draft This Weekend

As you know, the NFL Draft is Thursday in New York City. The Green Bay Packers have the 32nd pick in the draft after winning the Super Bowl this past season.

The Packers are a young team, but now have experience, and they can only get better. Next year, Nick Barnett, Morgan Burnett and Jermichael Finley, to name a few, will be back from injury and will strengthen this team.

With the draft Thursday, who might the Packers draft?

First, let's break down their team needs. Their team needs are: OT, OG, DE, OLB, CB, WR, RB.

Ted Thompson has done a great job as general manager, and so has Mike McCarthy as head coach. I am sure they will make the right decisions for what the team needs and to fill those needs with the correct players.

Tomorrow, in the first round, the Packers could go a variety of ways. First, they could trade out of it and move down and gather more draft picks.

Or, the Packers could stay at 32 and draft the best player available. Here are some players that might be there at 32, in second round at 64, in third round at 94, in fourth round at 129 and 131, in fifth round at 163, in sixth round at 197, and in seventh round at 204 and 233.  

Danny Watkins, OG, Baylor: Watkins is 27 years old, and is older than most. He is a great run blocker and is a hard worker on the field. Kind of reminds me of Brian Bulaga.

Brooks Reed, OLB, Arizona: Reed may or may not be here at 32. Reed has a high motor, plays with a lot of intensity, is a hard hitter and reminds people of Clay Matthews, because of that and his long blonde hair.

Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA: can play outside linebacker and defensive line. Very versatile. Could become a little more explosive. Good cover linebacker as well. In the Packers' 3-4 defense, would best fit as the SAM linebacker.

Muhammad Wilkerson, DE, Temple: Don't know if he will be here, but if he is, the Packers should give a look at him. 6'5" and 305, so big, but also fast off corner. Solid tackler, had 70 last season.

Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama: If the former Heisman winner falls here, Thompson will probably think hard about it. Ingram is powerful and can get through holes.

Aaron Williams, CB, Texas: He is 5'11", so he can bump with some of the taller receivers, speedy (ran a 4.52 40), can jump (37.5" vertical jump).

Pittsburgh receiver Jon Baldwin might be available as well, but he has some character issues. Derek Sherrod of Mississippi State could be there as well.

In the later rounds...

Brandon Harris, CB, Miami: He'll be around in second round. Decent speed (4.51 40), and is aware of his surroundings when in coverage.

Sam Acho, OLB/DE, Texas: Undersized for a defensive end, but is a great hustler. Average run stopper and solid pass rusher. No less than a third-round pick.

Randall Cobb, WR, Kenctucky: He een mocked to the Packers for a while and would be a good fit. Cobb is 5'10", so not the tallest, but he is quick. Good frame as well. Great runner after the catch, which is important for Packers, as both Jennings, Driver and Jones all are great at running after the catch. He might be a pick at No. 32 if Reed, Wilkerson, Sherrod and Watkins are gone.

DeMarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma: Athletic, speedy, versatile, great runner and can catch out of the backfield. Would be great to spell James Starks and Ryan Grant.

Edmund Gates, WR, Abilene Christian: He's 6'0", speedy (ran a 4.37 40) and has the potential to be great at the next level.

Other names to watch are Cecil Shorts III, WR, Mount Union, and Cortez Allen, CB, Citadel.
