Philadelphia 76ers: Philadelphia Has to Do It the 'Rock Way' To Beat Miami

Jess Matthew BeltranApr 22, 2011

The 72-stone steps at the entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the most famous tourist attractions in the city.

Each step bears memories and sweat of thousands of would-be Rocky Balboas mimicking the famous Rocky scene.

The statue that was located at the top of the steps is now found in the bottom right portion, his arms extended towards the sky in victory.

It's a symbol for the underdog, the battered fighter that defies all odds, that may be down, but not out.

Andre Iguodala knows, being down 0-3, it's almost a lost cause.

No team in history has ever done it—no team has taken four straight games after going down by three.

Against this Miami Heat team, it seems even less probable. This is a team that still outscored them on an off night—a team that can put LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all on the court at the same time.

The Sixers could have won the last game, but they couldn’t find ways to knock those shots in. They were true underdogs—everybody expected the Miami Heat to crush them and no one ever dared to flip the script.

Iguodala knows that if they want to win this series, then they will have to win it the “Rocky way.”

Nobody thinks it’s easy, but nobody said it’s impossible.

They almost scored an upset in Game 1 when they outscored Miami 25-11 in the first quarter.

Unfortunately for the Sixers, however, they failed to sustain their lead going into the second quarter.

It's always been their inconsistency that's proved costly for them—but it also has a lot to do with Miami’s crippling defense.

One game at a time—with 82 games on the season and three games in the first round, it all boils down to one knockout game.

Andre has been carrying the team for most of the season, playing with a sense of urgency and getting them all more involved in the offense.

They will have to forget about the Miami trio. Basketball, after all, is a team game. Everyone is accounted for. This is the time when Rocky strikes back and destroys Apollo Creed.

There may be a reason why the Rocky statue was placed in Philadelphia—the Sixers needed an inspiration, and they don’t have to climb 72 steps to see it.

One step at a time, one game at a time.

The Philadelphia 76ers will keep on swinging, hoping to land that one big punch.
