2011 NFL Draft: Dallas Cowboys' 7-Round Mock Draft 4.0

Trevor TriggJun 3, 2018

It's now less than two weeks until the draft and things are starting to become more clear. Things can still change from now until then, but not by much. Pro day season has ended and now we know a little more about who the Cowboys may be targeting.

There are some changes from my last mock draft to reflect some of the different players the Cowboys brought in for pre draft visits.

Here's my take on how things could happen on draft day.

Round 1: Tyron Smith, OT USC

1 of 8
LOS ANGELES, CA - SEPTEMBER 26: Quarterback Matt Barkley #7 of the USC Trojans throws a pass as Tyron Smith #70 blocks Jesse Feagin #98 of the Washington State Cougars during the second quarter of the college football game at the Los Angeles Memorial C

More and more, it's looking like this is going to be the pick. The Cowboys brought in several of the top tackle prospects this year for their pre draft visits.

Smith has put on about thirty pounds and is now a respectable 310. He ran a 4.9 forty at his pro day so its seems that he hasn't lost any quickness. He has tremendous potential and has been labeled by some as the only "special" tackle in the draft.

I would like it he was a bit more polished, but chances are Hudson Houck can get him ready by the season opener.

Trading down is a possibility too, although finding a trading partner might be harder due to the uncertainty with the CBA. If they do trade down they might take a long look at Mike Pouncey or Anthony Castonzo.

Round 2: Rahim Moore, Safety UCLA

Rahim Moore also came in for a pre draft workout. He is the highest rated safety in a weak class, but I think he is instantly an upgrade to the Cowboys' secondary. He led the nation in interceptions in 2009 so he knows how to find the ball.

Gerald Sensabaugh wasn't as bad as people might think last year. If the Cowboys can resign him and draft Moore they might have one of the better safety tandems in the league. If Moore pans out like he should, they might have one of the best.

Round 3: Ras-I Dowling CB Virginia

Ras-I Dowling is an intriguing prospect. He pulled up lame during his forty at the combine, while still managing to run a 4.4. Dowling is considered to be a second or third round pick, so he might not be there when the Cowboys pick in the third round.

He has some injury concerns but he did lead Virginia in interceptions his first two years. He could push Orlando Scandrick for the third corner spot.

Round 4: Clint Boling, OG Georgia

Boling was a four year starter for the bulldogs. He has versatility and could man the tackle spot in a pinch. He lacks elite athleticism but has experience with a pro style offense and graded out well against the tough competition in the SEC.

He could provide depth along the offensive line and the Cowboys will love his versatility and his experience.

Round 5: Nate Irving, ILB North Carolina State

5 of 8
ORLANDO, FL - DECEMBER 28: Jock Sanders #9 of the West Virginia Mountineers misses a catch defended by Nate Irving #56 of the North Carolina State Wolfpack during the Champs Sports Bowl at Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium on December 28, 2010 in Orlando, Flor

Irving suffered numerous injuries in a car crash that sidelined him for the entire 2009 season but had a solid performance last season, registering 20.5 tackles for a loss.

He would provide much needed depth at the ILB spot for the Cowboys after they missed on Brandon Williams in 2009.

Round 6: Jeron Johnson, SS Boise State

Johnson is a good athlete who specializes in bone-jarring hits.

He could be a force on special teams and might eventually work his way into the starting lineup. He isn't the best cover guy but he can flat-out level people.

With Gerald Sensabaugh's future with the Cowboys uncertain, they should pick up Johnson. At the worst he would at least provide depth and be a special teams ace.

Round 7: Ryan Winterswyk, DE Boise State

Winterswyk was a three time first team all WAC defensive end for the Broncos. He registered 44.5 tackles for a loss and 21.5 sacks for his career at Boise.

He could provide depth along the Cowboys' defensive line and could contribute immediately on special teams.

Round 7: Noel Devine, RB West Virginia

8 of 8

I've heard that in the lower rounds of the draft, speed becomes a determining factor.

Well, speed is something Noel Devine has. He recently ran a 4.3 at West Virginia's pro day. I love his explosiveness and his ability to make quick cuts.

He can also return kickoffs and would make a great addition to the Cowboys backfield if they part ways with Marion Barber.
