2011 Cleveland Browns Full Mock Draft: Edition 2.0
Were only about two weeks away from the NFL Draft! Let's take a look at whole the Cleveland Browns and Mike Holmgren will take with their 8 picks this year. Will they go defense will they go offense? Please leave comments, thoughts, or whatever else is on your mind below. Also, follow me on twitter @Scarlson29.
1st Round Selection: Patrick Peterson CB LSU
1 of 8
Yes, Cleveland needs help on the defensive line. Yes, Cleveland needs a wide receiver. Yes, Cleveland needs offensive line. Cleveland also needs another cornerback though to go alongside Joe Haden, and Patrick Peterson is not only the best CB in the draft but also is the best player in the draft. If he is available at the sixth pick, I just don't see how Mike Holmgren doesn't take Peterson.
Peterson has the rare size of a safety and the speed of a top end cornerback. His ball skills are great and his cover skills are above average. In the end, he is your do it all type of player on defense. Heck, he will blitz for you if you needed him too, he would move to safety if you needed him too, he would even return kicks if you needed him too.
Patrick Peterson would be a great duo too go along with Joe Haden for years to come with the Cleveland Browns.
2nd Round Selection Jabaal Sheard DE Pittsburgh
2 of 8
Cleveland needs to take a defensive lineman early in the draft after switching to the 4-3 defense to go on the other side of line across from Matt Roth. Cleveland could go wide receiver here, but this draft is deep at wide receiver in the earlier rounds, so taking one a little later on will be fine. Jabaal Sheard has first round talent, but will fall to second round because of a earlier arrest.
Sheard has been healthy in his three years at Pittsburgh with good production. He has above average pass rushing skills and is just decent against run. He is also not the fastest guy at the defensive end position, but he knows how to get to the quarterback. Sheard, in the end, would be good second round value for the Cleveland Browns.
3rd Round Selection Jerrel Jernigan WR Troy
3 of 8
Cleveland gets their wide receiver in the third round in Jernal Jernigan. Jernigan has top end speed speed and even though he doesn't have ideal height and weight, he is great in space. He reminds me a lot of Eagles WR Desean Jackson. I'm not saying he will be as good, but has the ability to be. He has playmaker written all over him and he is a very hard worker. His only downside is his build at 5'8" 185 lbs.
4th Round Selection Casey Matthews ILB Oregon
4 of 8
Cleveland needs a little bit help at inside linebacker and Casey Matthews would be the perfect pick in fourth round. He played with emotion and leadership while at Oregon and plays just as hard as his brother. He doesn't have perfect size for the position, but has great speed and intangibles to help. His recognition on plays and toughness will make him a good linebacker in the pros.
5th Round Selection DeMarcus Love OT Arkansas
5 of 8
Cleveland needs a right tackle in this draft and Demarcus Love's draft value has just fallen off a cliff. He is still a good tackle and could help the Cleveland Browns on that right side of the offensive line. He has the size and above average speed for a lineman. He is a better pass rusher then run blocker. He has been pretty healthy through his career at Arkansas, missing only one game. In the fifth round, the Browns are getting their value with this pick.
First 6th Round Selection Ian Williams DT Notre Dame
6 of 8
Cleveland needs help at defensive tackle to go alongside Ahytba Rubin and Ian Williams could be a serviceable back-up or play certain downs at defensive tackle. He is able to plug the gap and stop the run and he is not that great at pass rushing, even though he has the toughness and motor to get the QB.
Second Sixth Round Pick Greg McElroy QB Alabama
7 of 8
You know Mike Holmgren is going to take a quarterback and Greg McElroy has the intangibles he is looking for in a future backup QB for the Cleveland Browns. His size may be a issue at 6'2", but he is a proven winner and has great toughness, leadership and accuracy.
7th Round Selection Thomas Weber K Arizona State
8 of 8
With Phil Dawson getting older and not knowing how much longer he will be on the Browns, taking a kicker in Thomas Weber will be the safe pick in the seventh round.
