Dwight Howard Video: Watch Howard Called for Strange Technical

There's a Dwight Howard video making the rounds of the sports world today after the Orlando Magic superstar big man picked up an odd technical foul in Wednesday's game against the Charlotte Bobcats. 

Howard has been the league leader in technical fouls assessed, thanks to his frequent arguing over foul calls, but this was one of the stranger ones he's been assessed all season long. 

Midway through the second quarter, with the Magic trailing Charlotte 50-41, Howard was fouled and sent to the free-throw line. 

He was preparing to take his shot when the whistle sounded again and he was sent off the line and down court. 

As it turned out, Howard had violated the league's 10-second free-throw clock—a seldom-invoked rule to keep players from stalling at the line—and the miscue resulted in a turnover.

Howard was understandably displeased with the decision to call him on the violation and when he complained to an official, he was assessed a technical for talking back. 

The foul was Dwight's 18th technical on the season, most in the NBA and almost all of those have been caused by his arguing with officials over calls. 

In this case, though, Howard was right.

While he did take longer than 10 seconds to shoot his free throw, it's a rule that is almost never invoked, even when players routinely exceed the time limits on shooting their free throws.

He certainly had a right to complain and certainly didn't deserve the technical he was given. 

In the end, the technical wouldn't make much difference in this game, as the Magic won 111-101 in overtime.

But Howard must now miss the Magic's next clash on Sunday against the Eastern Conference-leading Chicago Bulls.
