Los Angeles Clippers: Blake Griffin's Entrance and Influence
No need to fix what isn't broken. However, when talking about the Los Angeles Clippers there are lots of pieces scattered around the court waiting to be mended.
Blake Griffin's arrival could not have come at a better time or with a better franchise. The pace of the National Basketball Association is so quick that teams are either excelling by extraordinary means or being shut out immediately. There is no patience in a sport that requires it, so expect some type of futility in certain spots of the league.
With all of that said, Griffin has provided the Clippers with a relevance they have not known since the days of Elton Brand, who contributed massively to a Western Conference Playoffs appearance against the Phoenix Suns. Can Griffin do this alone? No.
But, if you look closely at the roster put in place, he does not have to.
Eric Gordon's perimeter threat is enough to couple Griffin's immaculate paint contributions. His dunks are not the only part of his game that are good enough to be highlighted. But when need be, he has Gordon to dish out to when he draws defenders, who can sink a shot from anywhere in the building when given the space to do so.
Baron Davis was a nice piece to the puzzle, but Mo Williams can do exactly what Davis was capable of. Even though both spend a good 90 percent of their games tossing the ball up to Griffin at the basket, Mo Williams has been known in Cleveland to have a clean jumper as well. He will not take the shot automatically, but when necessary he could make the game winner. How often is the true question behind the talent.
The Clippers are not the laughingstock of the basketball nation they once were. It will take time to get them to the exact place they want be to especially with franchises forming these super duo and trios around the country—mainly the East.
However, if they remain persistent and aggressive, the Clippers can claw their way back into the postseason, where some think they belong.
