Could Derrick Rose, Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook Leave Their Teams Next Summer?

Hayden KimJun 7, 2018

The playoffs are approaching and of course this is the time when many players are preparing to play extra games and others are about ready to pack their backs for the summer.ย

But this is also a time when players question themselves about whether they are happy where they stand; reflecting upon their current salary and their success and failures of the season.

Derrick Rose is lock, loaded and ready to fire the Bulls into the finals, Russell Westbrook is also ready to coordinate his Thunder into another successful playoff run, and sadly Kevin Love, who has had one of the most impressive seasons in NBA history, is sadly going to have to sit out this years playoff considering his Timberwolves are in last place in the West.ย

Depending on how Rose and Westbrook do in the playoffs and what Love's thought process is at this point, there is always a chance of these players leaving their current teams. Just take a look at what's happened this season with Melo, LeBron, Bosh, etc., anything can happen in a course of time.ย

In this article I will be ranking the chances of Rose, Westbrook, and Love leaving their current teams next summer by using a scale out of ten, ten being a close to 100 percent chance of the player leaving. Hope you enjoy and as always feel free to comment after the read.

1. Derrick Rose

The Bulls were predicted to do well this season, but not many expected the Bulls to be sitting at the top spot over the Celtics, Heat and Magic heading into the playoffs.ย

Led by Derrick Rose, the Bulls are feeling great and everything seems to be "mushing" together and who knows the Bulls could win it all this season. So why would Rose ever leave?

Well in this case I really don't see Rose leaving such a great situation; he has a very solid coach in Coach Thibodeau, a great supporting cast in Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer, and Luol Deng, honestly the list goes on.ย

Having said that, the chances of Rose leaving next summer are very slim. The onlyย reason why Rose would leave such a great situation would be if he felt for whatever reason that the Bulls just don't have what it takes to win the title, which doesn't seem to be the case.ย

I give Rose's chances a 2/10 chance of leaving the Bulls next summer and not a one because there really always is a chance of someone leaving their team if the financial means are possible.ย

2. Kevin Love

Coming off of one of the most impressive seasons in NBA history, Kevin Love truly has to be feeling left out of the scene, with his team out of the playoffs once again.ย

Love can't help but rethink his options this next summer and though he has had much individual success with his Timberwolves, he hasn't had an inch of team success which is what Love seems to strive for.ย

Sorry Timberwolve fans, but Love is most likely headed to another team this summer, if he is smart.ย I say smart because Love could easily decide to stay in Minnesota and most likely have a similar year to what he had this year, but considering Love is a born winner, losing has to be hurting him.ย

I give Love a 7/10 due to the fact that he is on the worst team in the West and that it really has to hurt having such a great individual performance and not making the playoffs once again.ย

3. Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook and Derrick Rose are in very similar circumstances and having come from the same draft class (2008), the two must be feeling the exact same way about their current situations.ย

The Oklahoma City Thunder are going to have a tough first-round matchup in the Denver Nuggets, but that doesn't take anything away from the more than solid season the Thunder have had this year and leading the way was Westbrook and Durant.ย

It might be a stretch to say this, but Westbrook may have a little more than a long shot of a chance of leaving the Thunder next summer and here's why: he may be feeling limited with his ability, not exactly having been contending for a title, and Westbrook may even be feeling shadowed by Durant's spotlight.

But these reasons still aren't quite enough to give Westbrook a legitimate chance of leaving next summer. I give Westbrook a 4/10ย chance of leaving next summer.ย
