Michael Jordan Video: Watch MJ Tell Harrison Barnes to Wear Air Jordans

Michael CahillMar 24, 2011

Wow.

Jordan, in just a few years, has gone from a beloved iconic athlete and media darling, to a creepy bully.

So when Jordan stops Harrison Barnes of North Carolina, he tells him he never wants to catch him in Kobe Bryant’s shoes again (Somewhere Kobe Bryant is so mad that he’s out at shooting practice with an entire media entourage.).

There are so many things that are weird about the video that I am not sure where to begin. But let’s start.

First, what is Jordan wearing? This is the same guy who drives hot cars and wears designer suits that cost more than my life is worth (it’s true…trust me.) Now he’s wearing either really weird jeans or some designer Zumba pants and a baggy t-shirt. I know Jordan is almost 50, but he doesn’t have to start dressing like it.

Next, he’s big pimpin’ next to an ATV. I guess the sports cars get old so he has to start off roading to work.

Next, he makes sure to remind Harrison Barnes that they got smoked by Duke a couple of weeks ago. Nice job, Mike. Way to remind a young player of his failures. Especially when the cameras are rolling.

Also, did anyone else pick up on the fact that the owner of an NBA team just offered to give a group of college kids a designer shoe for free?  Doesn’t that violate some code of ethics?

Also, I don’t know where they were, but never in my life have I ever just happened to bump into anyone famous. The closest I ever got was when Randy Brown, former Chicago Bulls guard, was supposedly at the amusement park I worked at.

I kept looking out the window for him, until it dawned on me that first, Randy Brown was probably not wearing a three piece suit (which I sort of imagined) and second, though he was on my favorite team, his face was a little fuzzy in my memory.

Needless to say I figured this out after several hours of giving head nods and smiles to various taller African-American men who were in the park that day. So not only was I innocently stereotyping an entire race of men, I was also inadvertently trying to pick them up.

And no one ever offered a free pair of Air Jordans.

Just my luck.
