NBA Speculation: Is Chris Paul Trying To Get Out of New Orleans?

Michael MillMar 4, 2011

There are some skeptics around the league who believe New Orleans point guard Chris Paul is not putting forth a full effort towards winning.

There is no question that Paul is having one of the worst playing streaks of his career, but to say he isn't giving a full effort simply makes me laugh.

When has Paul ever shown signs of not giving it 100 percent?

Just because LeBron James went to play for the Miami Heat doesn't mean every star player is going to pack it in for a marquee town.

The Carmelo Anthony and Deron Williams trades don't necessarily support that statement, but does that mean Paul is going to follow?

Not at all.

The reasoning behind Paul's poor play seems rather simple to me.

Why must we assume that Paul isn't as physical or aggressive as usual because he wants out of New Orleans? Couldn't the answer be as simple as an injury?

I'm not saying Paul is injured, but chances are he hasn't fully recovered from his knee surgery.

He has never been one to complain about an injury.

Usually, Paul just grits his teeth and plays through the pain. What would make this situation any different?

In fact, Paul returning from his injury early shows me the exact opposite of what everybody is saying. He obviously wants to play.

It's not that Paul isn't giving it everything he has.

It just appears that right now, everything he has is less than we are used to seeing.
