New York Knicks: Why Chauncey Billups Is More Important Than Carmelo Anthony

Chauncey Billups is more important than Carmelo Anthony...right now. 

The 'Melo blockbuster deal was supposed to be all about Carmelo Anthony, but this has not been the case. Although all eyes have been on 'Melo, the real star has been Billups. 

For the time being, Chauncey Billups is more important than Carmelo Anthony. 

Chauncey Is a Point Guard

Chauncey Billups is the New York Knicks' new point guard. Therefore, it is up to Billups to set up plays and get all of the players involved. 

If Billups has a rough night and turns over the ball a lot, the Knicks will not have a good game. It is up to Billups to dish the ball to Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire.

Both Anthony and Stoudemire are not good ball handlers; therefore it is Chauncey's job to handle the ball. 

Billups is playing the most important position in basketball. It is his job to get the offense set up and in sync.

Chauncey Billups is playing the best basketball he has all season. He is averaging 23.3 ppg and 6 apg in just four games with the Knicks. 

Needless to say, Billups is not only getting the team involved, but he is also becoming a huge scoring threat for the Knicks.

Billups has been very clutch thus far with his new team. He hit the go-ahead basket against the Miami Heat with just over a minute left to play, which led the Knicks to victory.

All of the pressure has been on Carmelo Anthony. If he does not play very well, he will be ridiculed and the New York Knicks will be considered the losers in the blockbuster deal with the Denver Nuggets. 

There was absolutely no pressure on Billups coming to New York. He is an aging point guard at 34 years old, and the Knicks do not expect Billups to win them an NBA title.

With this said, Billups came to New York and simply played basketball. He did not have to worry about if his team won or lost, because that was all on Anthony's and Stoudemire's shoulders. 

However, with all eyes on Anthony, Billups has stepped up tremendously and has been the MVP for the New York Knicks in the four games he has played since joining the team. 

Although Carmelo Anthony is a very good player and is more important to the Knicks than Chaucey Billups, Billups has been outshining Carmelo and has been more important to the Knicks so far.
