NBA Trade Rumors: 10 Teams Waiting Until the Offseason to Make Their Big Move
Carmelo Anthony is back home in New York, Gerald Wallace is now a Blazer and Shane Battier is re-united with the Memphis Grizzlies, but what is in store for the teams that decided to wait until the offseason to make their so-called big move?
The Charlotte Bobcats and the Utah Jazz are among the many teams that decided to clear up some cap space and begin to head into the re-building process, which could in turn be a wise move in the future.
Because most of you are tired of hearing about the teams that made moves before the trade deadline, how about we take a look at the teams that didn't?
In this slideshow I will be listing 10 teams that are waiting until the offseason to make their "big move." Hope you enjoy, and as always, feel free to give some input after the read!
10. Denver Nuggets
1 of 10
For all of you Denver fans out there mourning the losses of superstar Carmelo Anthony, and veteran guard Chauncey Billups, just imagine the possibilities of what the Nuggets could acquire in the offseason.
The good news for the Nuggets is that they are a more than an average team even without Melo and Billups. With the addition of Gallinari, Chandler and Felton, alongside Ty Lawson and K-Mart, the Nuggets may not even need a big name player; instead they could go after a solid veteran big man in the offseason to add onto their solid arsenal of players.
But that doesn't mean they still couldn't go after a big name player, and the name Chris Paul has to be on the Nuggets' radar. If the Nuggets can manage to attract CP3, the Nuggets would be good enough to become legitimate contenders not only in the West, but the NBA. Expect the Nuggets to make some type of move in the offseason, whether it be CP3 or a veteran big man to back Nene up.
9. Memphis Grizzlies
2 of 10
The Memphis Grizzlies aren't where they would like to be at this point in the season sitting at the eighth spot in the West, not knowing for sure if they will make the playoffs.
With the all of the young talent, the Grizzlies should be doing better than what they have been showing. That's why there's good reason to push for a big name player in the offseason.
Big names like Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Brook Lopez, Kevin Garnett and Kevin Love are among the names that the Grizzlies could push for.
Their payroll may be high, but they need to make adjustments if they truly want to compete for an NBA title in the near future, and what better time than this year's offseason.
8. Atlanta Hawks
3 of 10
The Hawks are one superstar away from being contenders in the East. With the shifting of players in the East, the Hawks aren't realistically in the title picture this year, but they have the chance to make some adjustments in the offseason.
With sending Mike Bibby in turn for Kirk Hinrich, the sign of wanting to acquire a big name player in the offseason is there, and someone like Dwight Howard could easily make the difference for the Hawks next season.
If the Hawks were to acquire Howard in the offseason, they could move Horford to the 4 spot and they could have an unstoppable front line. But that's of course only an idea, for now.
7. Portland Trail Blazers
4 of 10
Exchanging Joel Pryzbilla and a draft pick for Gerald Wallace was a great move for the Blazers, but who said they are done making moves?
The only piece that the Blazers are lacking is a reliable big man, and yes, LaMarcus Aldridge isn't a true center. That is why the Blazers are expected to make a move in the offseason, most likely for a big man.
With the uncertainty of Brandon Roy's return and the loss of their backup center, the Blazers need to try and get a veteran big man in the offseason in order to be contenders in the West next season.
6. New Jersey Nets
5 of 10
Acquiring superstar Deron Williams was a bold move by Nets majority owner, Mikhail Prokhorov. The saying, "don't give up, don't ever give up," applies to the fact that the Nets failed with Melo, LeBron, but got Deron Williams, which is the best third option possible.
Everyone knows what the main reason for acquiring Deron Williams was to attract potential big name players in the offseason, and because the Nets now have arguably the best point guard in the NBA, any big name player that isn't a point guard is now on the Nets' radar.
5. Dallas Mavericks
6 of 10
The Mavericks are experiencing deja vu to the fullest; every year they seem to be stuck on the same level of play, not quite contenders, but more than average, which is not what Marc Cuban and Dirk Nowitzki want.
Dirk and Kidd are aging, and time is running out for the Mavericks. Making a push for a big name player is a must this offseason if the Mavericks want to make one last push for a title run before both Dirk and Kidd are too old to carry the team.
4. Phoenix Suns
7 of 10
The Suns are in a time of rebuilding, and they couldn't have made a better decision in acquiring Aaron Brooks from the Rockets in order to plan for the future Suns.
Now this offseason will be crucial for the Suns because they aren't planning to compete for a title anytime soon. This would be a great time to try and wait out the season, and then push for a superstar in the offseason. If they can manage to build a solid group of players around Brooks, the Suns could become contenders in the near future.
3. New York Knicks
8 of 10
Yes, I am aware that the Knicks have already made a so-called "big move" in acquiring Melo and Billups from the Nuggets, but there is a possibility that the Knicks aren't done quite yet.
There are some speculating that the Knicks may try and make one more big move in the offseason, and of course, there are many players that they could try and acquire, but as of now it is just a speculation.
The reasoning for putting the Knicks on here is they aren't exactly championship caliber yet, and if the Knicks want to compete for a title in the near future, this year's offseason will be their prime opportunity to cash in one more player to secure their title of being a "contender."
2. Charolotte Bobcats
9 of 10
Whether Jordan's decision to let go Gerald Wallace was a good one or not, it happened, and that only means rebuilding time for the Bobcats.
In a sense, the move was risky, considering Wallace was their best player, but if the Bobcats want to be contenders in the future, the move was necessary.
Expect the Bobcats to make a move in the offseason for who knows who, but there is a good chance they will try and rebuild with a superstar like CP3?
Los Angeles Lakers
10 of 10
Have you heard of the name Dwight Howard? Well, he is most likely headed to the City of Angels in the offseason. Dwight has been hinting at coming to the Lakers for some time now and that mixed with performances not up to par by his teammates, the more and more chances of Dwight joining the Lakers.
I know, impossible right? There's no way Dwight can join the Lakers, it wouldn't be fair! But the fact is, the Lakers have already had a similar experience with acquiring Pau Gasol for virtually nothing, which proves that nothing is out of reach for the Lakers.
In this year's offseason, expect the Lakers to try and push for Dwight. If they do indeed acquire Dwight from the Magic, there might not be any stopping the Lakers in the next couple of years.
