NBA Power Bombs: Western Conference Heroes Become Eastern Conference Foes

Joye PruittFeb 24, 2011

Nobody expected this. Maybe Carmelo Anthony's move to New York because he has been doing everything with the exception of tattooing it on his forehead to show that he wanted to make that move. But, when it was announced that Deron Williams was being sent to New Jersey where owner Prokhorov was determined to get Anthony, it was a bit of a shock.

So, is this a trend that we are seeing? Is there going to be a permanent shift of power to the Eastern Conference that will not only affect the performance in next year's All Star game but the shift in championships won by the underrated talent in the East.

Young and explosive is the only way to describe the majority of dominant teams in the East, of course leaving out the Boston Celtics, but they are explosive, nonetheless. Miami and Chicago are numbers two and three in the conference and rightfully so. With three players in the talks of this season's MVP, Dwyane Wade, Lebron James and Derrick Rose, they provide some of the most entertaining highlights that a fan has ever seen.

Showmanship is not what wins games, but the ability to pump energy and endurance from a run or a basketball court length pass is enough to pass up an opponent.

Carmelo Anthony in a Knicks jersey is probably every New York fan's dream. His performance in his debut against the Milwaukee Bucks was just a nail in the coffin of the Western Conference, because many hoped that a change of surroundings, the stress of the trade and the possible lackluster efforts of Chauncey Billups would make his decision seem like the wrong one. Fortunately, Billups, even with all of the antics mounting up to that moment, was able to be professional on the court and show why he is nicknamed "Mr. Big Shot". He hit 100% of his free throws and showed incredible balance.

It may take Amare Stoudemire a little bit of time to cope with the fact that he is no longer the star of NY's hearts and that his efforts to get the NY Knicks to a +.500 position may go overlooked and lost in Anthony's arrival, but their on court chemistry and performance will not be effected.

Denver and Utah, along with the loss of Baron Davis from the Los Angeles Clippers, have lost big names from their franchises and while it has not been for nothing, the reason of the season will tell whether or not they will be able to stay above water.
