Deron Williams Trade: Winners and Losers of The Big Deal
The New York Knicks make a move and the New Jersey Nets came right back with one of their own.
After reports of Williams wanting to play in New York, it seems he will get his wish. jJust two years later in Brooklyn.
The Nets and Jazz did what they had to do to strengthen their teams, and the Nets got the superstar they wanted.
The Nets will receive point guard Deron Williams from Utah and Dan Gadzuric from Golden State. The Jazz will obtain Devin Harris, Derrick Favors and draft picks from New Jersey. Finally, the Golden State Warriors will receive Troy Murphy.
Here are the winners and loser of the Nets-Warriors-Jazz trade that is sure to shake up the NBA scene.
Winner: New Jersey Nets

There is no doubt the Nets are the big, big, big winner in this deal.
They got the superstar they chased after, unloaded Troy Murphy's contract and were able to dish out Devin Harris before the trade deadline.
Deron Williams is going to run show in New Jersey teamed up with big man Brook Lopez. The Nets have built a solid group of players now but have lost some of the future giving up multiple picks to Utah for Williams.
Mikhail Prokhorov did wonders with getting the Knicks to ante up half of their team to get Carmelo Anthony, and now he gets a solid superstar to help appease the New Jersey fans after losing out on Anthony.
Now the Nets don't seem like such a bottom dweller in the Atlantic division. Next up, help at the small or power forward positions.
Loser: Utah Jazz

They got some solid players in Derrick Favors and Devin Harris, don't get me wrong, but they lost longtime head coach Jerry Sloan because of Deron Williams (allegedly) and now have lost their star point guard.
The Jazz now, in obtaining Favors have a load of big men and are scarce and thin at the guard position.
They have multiple draft picks they're obtaining in this deal, but honestly how do you know they'll be good players? How do you know they'll be bad?
As of right now the Jazz lost out on a good team. They had at least one more season with Deron Williams and could have dealt him next season. They look to be going downhill the rest of the way this year and possibly next season too.
Winner: Deron Williams

You know Deron Williams is a winner here.
He got away from a team he didn't want to play for, got to another team who is basically a blank canvas and will now build around him, and he's going to get resigned to a max contract most likely before he's able to hit free agency.
He can't lose in this deal.
Williams already has a solid big man in Brook Lopez and will help lead the Nets back to prominence whether it be in New Jersey or Brooklyn.
He's now "The Man" on the Nets and a solid piece to build around.
Loser: Derrick Favors

The third overall pick just got bumped down the lineup card in a heavily crowded Utah Jazz team.
He's going to be a work-in-progress now in Utah and has tremendous upside. But as for the rest of this year, he will most likely barely see the floor like his 19.5 minutes per game in New Jersey.
Favors will now be a bench role player. Not exactly the place he wanted to land, but in the eyes of the Jazz, he can now sit and reach his high potential so many people say he has.
Winner: Mikhail Prokhorov

Being a Knicks fan from New Jersey, I can honestly say I don't like this guy with a passion.
Not only did he screw my team over by making them give basically the entire team away knowing very well he had zero shot at Carmelo Anthony, but now he's given the Nets fans hope.
If he can re-sign Deron Williams next season then he just pulled off probably the best trade deadline dealing the Nets have seen in a while.
He stuck it to rival New York, and he brought in the superstar he said he would.
He's delivered more then enough to all the Nets fans.
The picture is fitting since I feel like he's just sitting there laughing in his Russian mansion at what he did to the Knicks and was able to do what he wanted.
He's just sitting there laughing at us Knicks fans.
Loser: New Jersey Nets

As much as you are winners, you're also the losers.
The Nets traded "multiple draft picks" for Williams. Some of those picks might come from Golden State, granted, but if one of those picks is the Nets pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, man you lost out on a lottery pick at worst.
That's the reason I see it as a losing prospect for the Nets, they gave up a lot of picks for one guy and to get rid of Troy Murphy and Devin Harris.
That pick could have been high enough to pick someone solid to help solidify the weak small forward position of the Nets.
Again, don't get me wrong. I think the Nets are huge winners in this, but just from a future stand point, the Nets gave up a lot for one person.
But it's like they've been saying about Carmelo Anthony, superstars are impossible to obtain.
