Deron Williams to New Jersey Nets for Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and Picks

Kelly ScalettaFeb 23, 2011

Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowki is reporting that the Nets and Jazz have agreed to a deal that will send Deron Williams to the Nets in exchange for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors and picks.

After striking out on LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, it looks like the Nets have finally have found their superstar.

Basketball in New York is certainly getting better this week.

This is a deal that was completely under the radar. There was speculation about Deron Williams going to New York after his contract ended, but certainly none that indicated he could be headed for the East Coast so soon.

This first indicates that the Jazz have cashed in on the season. They've been in a tailspin of late and with the sudden resignation of Sloan and now the trading of Williams, it's hard to believe they are going to be coming out of it any time soon.

Deron Williams has been unhappy in Utah, as he's felt they haven't been doing enough to take the next step to get better. Devin Harris has been unhappy in New Jersey.

The grass, as they say, is always greener on the other side of the hill. Now they both get to either have a new beginning or experience the other man's misery, depending on how you look at it.

Derrick Favors has been something of a disappointment in New Jersey and would be another player that could reignite his career elsewhere.

The apparent motivation was that the Jazz were getting ahead of the new game in the NBA, trading a player when they have to take a lesser deal for a superstar that wants to play.

This certainly is another indication of the changing NBA landscape in terms of free agency.
