NFL Power Rankings: 10 Most Likely Contenders to Be the NFL's Next Great Dynasty

Tom KinslowJun 1, 2018

NFL power rankings are here and we're not just talking about next year, we're thinking long term.

Dynasties aren't a common thing. It takes a lot of factors to make those happen. With that in mind, we're breaking down the 10 teams with the best chance to build a dynasty in the near future. If you have any thoughts or comments, make sure to leave them below.

Who do you think the team is with the best shot to do just that?

No. 10: Indianapolis Colts

The one thing we learned this year was to never count out Peyton Manning.

Manning put the Indianapolis Colts on his back last year as they went through countless injuries to make the playoffs and almost beat the New York Jets. If Manning can do that with a limited arsenal, then what can he do with a full roster?

That's a scary thought for the rest of the AFC.

No. 9: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2 of 10
NEW ORLEANS, LA - JANUARY 02: Quarterback Josh Freeman #5 celebrates after throwing a touchdown with Dezmon Briscoe #89 of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the game against the New Orleans Saints at the Louisiana Superdome on January 2, 2011 in New Orlea

Who saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coming last year?

Josh Freeman led the Bucs to the brink of the playoffs in 2010 as Tampa Bay came into its own this past season. Freeman looks like the real deal and there's plenty of young talent around, all the way up to the head coach.

If this team could make that impact last year, what could they do over the next couple of years with a maturing Freeman? That's a scary thought for the rest of the NFC.

No. 8: Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore has some hope for the future, but it's a double-edged sword.

While the Ravens have Joe Flacco and Ray Rice as the centerpieces of the offense going forward, that vaunted defense isn't getting any younger and players like Ed Reed and Ray Lewis are going to start slowing down. Sadly, Baltimore will have to rebuild that unit.

However, with Flacco and Rice, the Ravens will be competitive, they just need to get over the hump.

No. 7: New Orleans Saints

Let's not forget that at this time last year, the New Orleans Saints were Super Bowl champions.

New Orleans had to deal with injuries last year, but it still has Drew Brees and that high-powered offense. The Saints have a great coach in Sean Payton and New Orleans will be a contender for as long as Brees can stay healthy.

Next year will tell us what the Saints are really made of.

No. 6: Atlanta Falcons

5 of 10
ATLANTA, GA - JANUARY 15: Quarterback Matt Ryan #2 of the Atlanta Falcons rolls out to pass against the Green Bay Packers during their 2011 NFC divisional playoff game at Georgia Dome on January 15, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Packers won 48-21. (Phot

The Atlanta Falcons are a team that's built to compete into the future.

With Matt Ryan, Michael Turner and Roddy White, the Falcons have a solid core of their offense for years to come. Atlanta was the top seed in the NFC last year and the Falcons are only going to get better as the team continues to mature.

There are some holes, especially on defense, but if the Falcons can address them, they can make the leap to the next level.

No. 5: Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City has a lot of the ingredients for long-term success.

The Chiefs have a young quarterback, a stud running back and a franchise wide receiver. Throw in a good, young coach and Kansas City is set up pretty well for the future. The Chiefs won the AFC West last year and are in the position to continue competing for that crown for years to come.

If Matt Cassel can continue to make the leap, the Chiefs will be a dangerous team.

No. 4: New York Jets

The New York Jets have come a long way in two years and are on the verge of making it to the big game.

Under Rex Ryan, the Jets have made back-to-back AFC Championship games and we've seen Mark Sanchez come a long way since his rookie season. Players love playing for Ryan and with the way he coaches defense, there's no reason why the Jets can't be a team that's playing deep into the winter each year.

It will be interesting to see how New York retools this offseason and how that impacts the Jets' chances.

No. 3: Pittsburgh Steelers

8 of 10
ARLINGTON, TX - FEBRUARY 06: Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger #7 of the Pittsburgh Steelers throws a pass against the Green Bay Packers during Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium on February 6, 2011 in Arlington, Texas. The Packers won 31-25. (Photo by Jami

One of the things you never do in football is write off the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh had a lot of injuries this year and still made it to the Super Bowl and had plenty of chances to win the game. Ben Roethlisberger still has plenty of football ahead of him and that defense has plenty of playmakers.

Don't be shocked to see the Steelers back in another Super Bowl very shortly.

No. 2: New England Patriots

9 of 10

While Tom Brady isn't getting any younger, New England's defense sure is.

The Patriots brought in a bunch of young players who came into their own as New England earned the best record in the AFC. If the Patriots can get some more playmakers on offense, New England will get to multiple Super Bowls.

It's going to be an interesting offseason for the Patriots, that's for sure.

No. 1: Green Bay Packers

10 of 10

The top spot on this list has to be the defending Super Bowl champions.

Just think about it. The Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl without Ryan Grant and Jermichael Finley. Not only that, but Aaron Rodgers has a ton of football ahead of him and plenty of playmakers at his disposal.

It's a bright future in Green Bay, that's for sure.
