NBA Trade Rumors: 10 Teams That Would Give Up the Farm for Dwight Howard
With Dwight Howard lashing out about the Magic's defense after their loss to the Pistons a couple weeks ago, trade rumors involving the Magic's star player have been popping up throughout the media world.
Howard has a year remaining on his contract after this season, and a player option for the final season, but it may make more sense for the Magic to deal him now if they don't think he will remain in Orlando.
Dwight Howard has been denying that he wants to leave Orlando, however, "many sources" have stated that Howard may want to play in New York or Los Angeles.
With that being said, here are 10 teams who would go big for Dwight Howard:
Los Angeles Clippers
1 of 10
The Clippers have to be on the list, simply because they have Blake Griffin. Wouldn't it be cool to see Griffin and Howard play together?
The only problem is the Clippers won't give up Griffin or Eric Gordon. The rest of the roster would be available but a package including Chris Kaman, Baron Davis, Eric Bledsoe, and Randy Foye won't exactly excite many teams.
NBA fans can always keep dreaming though.
Charlotte Bobcats
2 of 10
Michael Jordan has been trying to bring a star to Charlotte since his arrival, but has not had much success to date.
Charlotte is in a rebuilding mode and would likely be unable to sign Howard to an extension without bringing in another big name player.
Jordan, however, thinks highly of himself and would likely think that he alone could convince Howard to stay in Charlotte.
The Bobcats do have a couple assets that they could offer in Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace, but don't expect that to get them Howard.
Philadelphia 76ers
3 of 10
Since the departure of Allen Iverson, the 76ers have been looking for a star to bring basketball back to Philly.
Philadelphia does not have many players that would be appealing outside of Elton Brand and Andre Iguodala but could try to throw in a first-round pick to sweeten the deal.
I wouldn't expect the Magic to consider this trade unless they are incredibly desperate, and trust me they aren't the Denver Nuggets, yet.
Phoenix Suns
4 of 10
If the Suns don't want to trade Steve Nash and are looking for one last run, Dwight Howard is the guy to pursue.
The Suns probably don't have the pieces in place to pull off a blockbuster deal. If the Suns could pull off a deal to get Howard and keep Jason Richardson and Steve Nash, they may be able to make a run in the Western Playoffs, if they get hot at the right time.
However, the best offer the Suns could put forward without bringing in another team would involve Gortat, Robin Lopez, Dragic, and Josh Childress. I wouldn't expect anyone to want to take on Childress' salary considering how he is underperforming this year and Phoenix's bench would look like the Heat's bench.
Utah Jazz
5 of 10
The Jazz could really use a big man to compliment Deron Williams. Howard would certainly fit that bill and would immediately provide the Jazz with a one-two punch.
The Jazz have actually had a pretty good season this year even though the Bulls took two of their most productive players in Korver and Boozer, so it is debatable on how much of the house they would be willing to give up to Orlando.
The likely offer from Utah would include either Millsap or Jefferson and C.J. Miles. However, the Magic would likely look to get both Millsap and Jefferson in return for Howard and that won't happen.
Washington Wizards
6 of 10
The Wizards are horrible, they have yet to win a road game this season and need someone other than John Wall.
Washington might be terrible, but they actually have some young pieces that may be of interest to the Magic.
JaVale McGee is young and still a raw talent, Andray Blatche has shown some potential, and Nick Young has had a very productive season as the team's leading scorer. Throw in Kirk Hinrich and a first-round pick and the Wizards are putting up a monster offer to land Howard.
John Wall and Dwight Howard would be a very good combo and adding a couple pieces to the puzzle in free agency would make the Wizards a top five team in the front-loaded Eastern Conference.
Denver Nuggets
7 of 10
Just for fun, maybe the Nuggets should trade Anthony to Orlando for Dwight Howard? Yea, it won't happen, but it would be fun to talk about.
On a more serious note, bringing Dwight Howard to town would certainly make Carmelo think about staying in Denver.
The Nuggets do have some assets that they could offer to the Magic, including Chauncey Billups, Chris Anderson and J.R. Smith.
If the Nuggets found a way to add a name like Rudy Gay to the mix, this trade actually looks very tempting for the Orlando Magic.
Again, not saying it would work, but it would be cool, right?
Los Angeles Lakers
8 of 10
While the Lakers won't technically give up the "farm" they can probably put together one of the best packages for Dwight Howard.
The Lakers need something to spark them as they have been struggling lately and sending Howard to Los Angeles would make him happy, as well.
The Lakers would be able to offer Andrew Bynum and Shannon Brown for Howard, which likely would not be enough to bring the star to town.
Like the Nuggets, the Lakers would likely need to find a way to involve the Grizzlies in a three-team trade to get Rudy Gay added to the mix.
Adding Andrew Bynum, Shannon Brown, and Rudy Gay would keep the Magic as contenders in the East. The Lakers, on the other hand, will be overwhelming favorites to repeat.
New York Knicks
9 of 10
Consider the Knicks the Washington Redskins of the NBA, if there is a big name on the market, you can count the Knicks in as an interested party.
The Knicks don't have many assets in the "farm", or they would have already acquired Carmelo from Denver.
The Knicks could offer Danilo Gallinari, Anthony Randolph, Toney Douglas and would have to include a pick or two in the mix, as well.
In all likelihood, this would not be enough to acquire Dwight Howard. The Magic would likely need the Knicks to include Wilson Chandler, something the Knicks might not be willing to do for Howard.
New Jersey Nets
10 of 10
The Nets are trying to resemble their best to look the part of the New York Knicks, their soon to be in-state rival.
The Nets, on more than one occasion have made it knows that they are willing to trade the house for a star. The Nets went big for Carmelo and failed, now they will go big for Howard.
They are willing to part ways with pretty much everyone on the roster to land a star player, look for them to offer Brook Lopez, Derrick Favors, Anthony Morrow, and a draft pick or two.
Lopez is a very good player in this league and Derrick Favors has the potential to be a very good player, as well. If the Magic decide to trade Howard, whether it be this season or next season, the Nets will likely be the favorite to bring Howard to town.
