B/R NBA Dunk of the Week: Will Blake Griffin Grab the Top Spot?
B/R NBA Dunk of the Week is a brand new feature that we here at Bleacher Report are going to start serving up on a regular basis.
If you're like us, this undoubtedly has you feeling excited.
Indeed, there are few things more awesome throughout the world of sports than a killer slam dunk. And the good folks doing work in the NBA are kind enough to give us dozens of these every week.
This week, we have entries from LeBron James, Vince Carter, Serge Ibaka and, of course, Blake Griffin.
It wasn't easy, but we managed to rank the 10 best dunks from the past week. If that sounds like fun to you, all you have to do is start the slideshow.
10. Danilo Gallinari Beats the Heat
1 of 10The New York Knicks finally managed to beat the Miami Heat on Thursday night, as they rode a second-half comeback to a 93-88 victory.
Pitching in with 20 points was third-year small forward Danilo Gallinari, who also came up with this killer dunk over Zydrunas Ilgauskus and Dwyane Wade.
It's a good dunk, no doubt about that. But I'm stashing it at No. 10 because it just seems to me to lack explosiveness.
9. Baron Davis to Blake Griffin from Half Court
2 of 10I love how much Blake Griffin spoils us. It seems like he comes up with two or three dunks every week that are better than the two or three awesome dunks he threw down the week before.
This week, we have two entries from the Blake Show to get to, and this 45-foot alley-oop from Baron Davis is the first.
That fact that this is No. 9 should have you pretty excited for what lies ahead.
8. Serge Ibaka Owns the Hornets
3 of 10If you want to succeed in the NBA, you can never give up on a play.
Just ask Oklahoma City Thunder big man Serge Ibaka, who fought hard to grab a rebound against the New Orleans Hornets.
Once he had it, he turned and flushed over two Hornets.
Boom.
7. J.R. Smith Tomahawks the Pistons
4 of 10Does somebody want to tell me why J.R. Smith isn't in the dunk contest again this year?
I only ask because he is still throwing 'em down on a pretty consistent basis, and this tomahawk jam against the Pistons is all the evidence you'll ever need that he can still get up into the stratosphere as well as anybody.
6. D-Wade Feeds King James
5 of 10Gallinari wasn't the only one who threw down a sick dunk Thursday night at the Garden.
After all, The King was in the house, and he never leaves MSG without giving the fans something to remember him by.
Case in point: this alley-oop from D-Wade.
5. John Wall Prepares Javale McGee for Dunk Contest
6 of 10J.R. Smith may be sitting this one out, but Washington Wizards big man Javale McGee is not.
Not sold on McGee as a worthy contestant?
Well, we're glad you asked. Go ahead and groove on this alley-oop from John Wall, in which McGee is in the air for days.
4. Vince Carter Goes Old School on 76ers
7 of 10It seems like just yesterday that Vince Carter was the premiere dunker in the NBA.
But then again, I'm getting old, and am thus losing track of time. So it's probably been a while.
In any case, Carter turns back the clock to the Vinsanity days with this one-handed flush against the 76ers.
He made me feel young again. And for that, I am thankful.
3. Dante Cunningham Comes out of Nowhere
8 of 10Nothing is more crucial to a given attack than the element of the surprise.
Dante Cunningham has clearly read his Sun Tzu (or whoever it was who wrote that), as he came out of nowhere against the Kings with a surprise posterization on this putback.
2. Buffalo's Mitchell Watt Punishes Kent State
9 of 10Yes, we know that the Buffalo Bulls are not an NBA team. But we're willing to make an exception if it means we can put this awesome sequence from Mitchell Watt on this list.
First, he gets style points for the block on one end of the floor, and then he throws down an absolutely vicious dunk over No. 13 at the other end.
Word on the street is that 13 went crying to his mother as soon as the game was over.
1. Blake Griffin's Reverse Alley-Oop against Warriors
10 of 10If you saw this Griffin dunk replayed time after time on SportsCenter this week, you're probably not surprised to see it at the top spot.
Of course, that doesn't make it any less awesome.
Here's the scary part: you know as well as I do that Griffin can do better than this.
The rest of the NBA can consider that a warning.
