Miami Heat vs. Detroit Pistons: Sports Handicapper's Against the Spread Preview

Joe DuffyJan 28, 2011

Elite sports handicapper Matt Rivers has another bet Friday that is on the Detroit Pistons (+10.5) at Miami.

Certainly, the glory days for this Detroit franchise are long gone and pretty much faded away after the Chauncey Billups trade. To say that this team is even average is wrong.

But in this spot, plus this number, I’ll take my chances with Rip, Tayshaun, Stuckey and a few other at least fairly high potential guys.

Collectively, Detroit is a mess and an organization that is on a complete downswing, but every now and then, you will see how this team can man up as it did the other night against the Magic.

A 17-29 record is awful for sure, but the Pistons have won two of their last three games and five of the last eight, making me believe that things are looking up a little more, at least of late.

Meanwhile, LeBron, D-Wade and the Heat are great and a team that may win it all this season. But with Chris Bosh banged up and with this being a never easy back-to-back with travel after the game at Madison Square Garden last night, I can legitimately wonder if the big bad Heat will have enough left in the tank tonight.

Playing in the world’s most famous arena can be an energy-expending experience that can lead to a letdown in the next game, especially when said next game is on the next night.

At any given time, the Heat can blow somebody out. And on any given night, the Pistons are ripe to get blown out. I get that. But there are enough factors in our favor tonight to make me side with this dog and expect a closer game than the so-called experts seem to believe.

Top expert pick on this game: Detroit Pistons from Matt Rivers.

For more information: The 12-4 football run has been semi historic and the hoops run is about to get golden as well. 300,000* Boston College came through last night in the end and another 300,000* is here from the Horizon League between Detroit and Wisconsin Milwaukee.
