NBA Scoring Machines: Top Scorers Who Play Less Than Half a Game
I was going to compile a list regarding the most productive players in the NBA, but it has been way overdone as of the late, so I decided it would be interesting to compile a list of the best scoring players so far in the 2010-11 NBA season.
The one hitch is that none of these players even average 24 minutes per game so far in the season.
In fact, some of the players on this list haven't even played 24 total minutes on the season, but this was really easy to calculate.
Say a player scores 10.0 points in 20.0 minutes per night; well, that would equal .500 points per minute. I analyzed every single player in the NBA who played under 24 minutes per game and divided how many points they scored by how many minutes they played.
Only 14 players in the NBA who play under 24 minutes a night scored over .500 points per minute.
Here is that list.
No.14 Jeremy Evans Utah Jazz (.500 PPM)
1 of 14
Evans has only played in 21 games this season. The small forward has scored 3.2 points in 6.4 minutes per game. He has shot an amazing 73% from the field in these games.
Uh, get this guy some more minutes Utah.
To tell the truth I do not know where this guy is at the moment.
No.13 Devin Ebanks LA Lakers (.508 PPM)
2 of 14
At this precise moment Ebanks might be back on the Lakers from the D-League again.
Who knows?
It's not like he garnered much playing time in the first place. So far though, he was/is one of the Lakers best scorers per minute with 3.1 points in 6.1 minutes a night in a handful of games.
He is shooting 67% from three point range!
No.12 Shannon Brown LA Lakers (.513 PPM)
3 of 14
Probably LA's most exciting and young player, yet he does not get many minutes. He should though.
He may actually be the key to LA's future success.
Too bad he has to play SG for LA, or he would for sure be getting more minutes. Sometimes it is excruciating to try and change from the old guard even when you know you should.
Brown is averaging 9.6 points in 18.7 minutes. He is shooting 39% from three point range and 90% from the line.
PUT THIS GUY IN MORE!!!
No.11 Tyrus Thomas Charlotte Bobcats (.514 PPM)
4 of 14
He is a role player for Charlotte but he should have a bigger role on the team which has won four of it's last five.
Thomas is putting in 11.1 points in 21.6 minutes so far this season. He also adds 5.8 rebs and 1.7 blocks per night.
No.10 DaJuan Summers Detroit Pistons (.516 PPM)
5 of 14
The 23-year-old former georgetown star is 6'8" and 240 but has only played 11 games this season.
He is scoring 3.3 points in 6.4 minutes this season.
He has made 63% of his three attempts in those games! His status at the moment is unknown by me, but I do know Detroit needs scorers.
No.9 CJ Miles Utah Jazz (.519 PPM)
6 of 14
Miles has been a definite scoring threat for Utah this season, too bad the team is going down fast.
Maybe Miles should be played more.
So far he has played most of the games and put in 12.0 points in 23.1 minutes per night. The SF adds 1.1 steals per night, and unlike the rest of Utah, plays defense.
No.8 Maurice Ager Minnesota Timberwolves (.521 PPM)
7 of 14
Ager is basically a veteran who has only played four games in this season, with Minnesota.
I know not his current status but he scored 3.8 points in only 7.3 minutes per game so far this season.
He made 55% of his field goals in these four games and 75% of his threes!
He is an undersized SF at 6'5". He formerly attended Michigan State.
No.7 Ryan Anderson Orlando Magic (.534 PPM)
8 of 14
This relatively unknown backup PF for Orlando has made up for the loss of Gortat.
He is 6'10" and went to Cal before the NBA.
He is scoring 10.4 points in only 18.9 minutes per night. He adds 4.6 rebounds and amazingly shoots 41% from three point range and 79% from the line.
No.6 Corey Maggette Milwaukee Bucks (.547 PPM)
9 of 14
Maybe Maggette should have been playing less minutes his whole career because he is producing lots of points in few minutes.
He always scored alot and this season he is putting in 11.7 points in 21.4 minutes.
Then again, maybe he should be playing more for the team that is ranked 30th in points scored per game.
No. 5 Yao Ming Houston Rockets (.560 PPM)
10 of 14
Before he was inevitably injured Yao was scoring 10.2 points in only 18.2 minutes and adding 5.4 rebs and 1.6 blocks per game.
Think the Rockets miss him???
No. 4 Lou Williams Philadelphia 76ers (.573 PPM)
11 of 14
This point guard is playing only 23.2 minutes per game but scoring 13.3 points per game.
His presence has made up for the loss of Iverson and he scores as many points per minute, almost.
The 76ers aren't as bad as they could or should be this year and I attribute that success to Williams and of course, Elton Brand.
No.3 Peja Stojakovic
12 of 14
I cannot think of any man in the world who will make so much money this year for doing so little.
Peja will make $15 million dollars this year even though he is on his third team and has only played eight total games.
He played two games for Toronto and scored an amazing 10.0 points in only 11.0 minutes in those games.
He added six games for NO and scored 7.5 points in only 14.8 minutes.
Overall he has scored 8.1 points in 13.9 minutes which is great.
Will he be the x-factor in Dallas?
I hope so. $15 MILLION!!!!!!!
No.2 Steve Novak Dallas Mavericks (.615 PPM)
13 of 14
Novak is like a poor man's Dirk Nowitzki.
He is also on Dallas as a SF at 6'10" and 240.
He can also score from three range with 75% of his threes made in only seven games this season.
He is averaging 1.6 points in 2.6 minutes per game.
The more minutes he'd play would probably see the former Marquette star's numbers go down, but then again, how would we know when they never give him a chance?
No.1 Daniel Green San Antonio Spurs (.667 PPM)
14 of 14
One game of action has put the little known Green atop our list.
On November 20th for the Spurs he played in only nine minutes of action but scored six points which equals .667 points per minute.
He made two of three, three-pointers in that short time for the best team in the league.
He played only one more game and he tallied only a couple seconds of action.
Who knows what he's up to now but...this guard leads the NBA in something, even though most do not know who he is.
He may never play another minute for the rest of the season.
