NBA Trade Rumors: Gerald Wallace, Carmelo Anthony and the Latest Trade News
With the Nets pulling out of the Carmelo Anthony deal, the NBA has seen a chain reaction—from the teams involved to the teams that never had a chance. With the trade deadline quickly approaching and teams looking to make a last ditch effort for the playoff push and beyond, there is a ton of buzz.
Here is a look at what’s hot in the trade rumor mill and whether it’s got the legs to pan out.
10.J.R Smith, G, Denver Nuggets
1 of 10
Who’s Interested: Chicago Bulls
The Story:
J.R Smith seems like the forgotten man in Denver. With Nene wanting out and Melo always in the news, Smith is a candidate to be moved without anyone taking notice. The Bulls, which have a big hole at shooting guard, are interested in Smith.
The Odds:
Not good. Denver knows that Taj Gibson is coming off the bench and would be a decent replacement for Anthony when and if he leaves. Chicago has Gibson for cheap money and won’t want to ruin depth for a guard that might not be necessary.
9.Chris Kaman, F, Los Angeles Clippers
2 of 10
Who’s Interested: Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons
The Story:
Kaman has seemingly been replaced by DeAndre Jordan and the Clippers are looking to shop him. The 76ers and the Pistons have shown interest, but both don’t provide cost-effective upgrades at the position.
The Odds:
There is a very good chance that Kaman stays put. With the trade deadline looming so close, you can except Kaman to stay in LA.
8. Danny Granger, F, Indiana Pacers
3 of 10
Who’s Interested: New Jersey Nets
The Story:
With Carmelo Anthony trade rumors dead now, the Nets now look to add Danny Granger to their plans. They have a ton of pieces in place to make an attractive package for the Pacers.
The Odds:
While the Pacers have been more low key about trading Granger, they are likely to hold on unless a trade blows their hair back.
7. Kirk Hinrich, G, Washington Wizards
4 of 10
Who’s Interested: Dallas Mavericks
The Story:
With John Wall moving in, just like in Chicago, there is no room for Kirk Hinrich. The upside is he’s one of the better defenders at his position. The downside is he has a massive contract.
The Odds:
Doubtful. The Mavs might need help and depth, but not at $8 million a year.
6. Chauncey Billups, G, Denver Nuggets
5 of 10
Who's Interested: New Jersey Nets, Detroit Pistons
The Story:
Just because the Melo talks are dead doesn't mean that New Jersey doesn't have any interest in the veteran point guard. Billups has a cheap buyout in his contract for next season. The Pistons, his former team, would find him useful back in Detroit.
The Odds:
Slim. Teams will flirt with him. Denver likes Billups, and there have been rumors he'd ask for a buyout with whatever team trades for him. Denver wants him involved with the organization in the future. They will keep him around.
5. Anthony Parker, G, Cleveland Cavaliers
6 of 10
Who’s Interested: Chicago Bulls
The Story:
The Cavs are looking to update their roster. The Bulls are in search of a shooting guard to replace the sub-par Keith Bogans. Anthony could be had for very little, and that makes him attractive to Chicago, which isn’t certain it wants to part with Taj Gibson.
The Odds:
Pretty good. Look, the Bulls know O.J Mayo and J.R Smith are better guards, but they want a good soldier who won’t do more than asked. Anthony Parker could be that guy.
4. Gerald Wallce, F, Charlotte Bobcats
7 of 10
Who’s Interested: Cleveland Cavaliers
The Story:
The Cavaliers are desperate for someone to beef up their roster and Wallace seems like a good fit. But the Bobcats are asking for a first round pick. While Wallace is a solid player having a solid year, the Cavs aren’t convinced he’s worth a lottery pick.
The Odds:
There is a good chance the deal gets done. Charlotte can use the help and might get away with a future first round pick to satisfy the Wallace deal.
3. Rip Hamilton, G, Detroit Pistons
8 of 10
Who’s Interested: No One
The Story:
While teammates like Ben Wallace and Ben Gordon might want Hamilton out on the floor, Detroit management is not interested in seeing him further. The problem is they don’t have a single taker for him. The Bulls only fancied with an interest, and now that Larry Brown is gone, Hamilton is not desirable to Charlotte.
The Odds:
Hamilton will kiss and make up with the Pistons because both sides have to. His contract is too big with still too many years on it. They don’t like one another, but they seem to be stuck together for a while.
2. Nene Hilario, C, Denver Nuggets
9 of 10
Who’s Interested: Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, Houston Rockets
The Story:
Nene can get out of his contract early and Marc Stein of ESPN is reporting that Nene is unhappy with Denver and how the Nuggets seem to have forgotten about him. He wants either Miami or Dallas. Houston has said it would like to make an offer as well.
The Odds:
Nene likely won’t be traded anywhere. Carmelo seems a lock to leave, which means Denver will have big money to throw at Nene. Besides, Miami doesn’t have the money. Houston doesn’t pique Nene’s interest, and Dallas won’t have the pieces to get him. Nene will stay in Denver.
1. Carmelo Anthony, PF, Denver Nuggets
10 of 10
Who’s Interested: Bulls, Knicks
The Story:
There are two rumors floating around about Melo. One is that he talked to his agents and they are pushing for a trade to Chicago. Melo could put Chicago in the hunt as a legit favorite to win the NBA Championship.
The other is to New York. The rumor is that it is still where his heart is and it’s where he wants to play ball for the long term.
The Odds:
For either team in a trade? Doubtful. The Knicks would like to make it happen but don’t have the horses to offer Denver. Chicago isn’t likely to mess with chemistry, plus there might be some payroll issues signing Melo and then having to give him and Rose max money at the end of the year.
It’s likely Melo goes to New York, but not until the offseason.
